1. Hong Kong. This is THE skyscraper city. The scale is absolutely unprecedented, in terms of scale nothing comes close. From what I've heard, it's something that has to be seen to be believed. The lighting at night is fantastic(the lighting of many Asian skylines is great, something north American skylines usually lack). The huge, colorful jungle of skyscrapers that is hong kong decisively tops this list for me.
2. New York. After a lot of thought, I decided that my 2nd place goes to New York. Even though the style of my other choice, shanghai, was more to my taste, there is just something about New York that makes it what it is. Perhaps it is the way New York is so uniquely iconic, so many buildings have a different story of their own, and yet they fit so well together. Whatever the reason, this city takes my second place. 3. Shanghai. I LOVE east Asian skylines, and Shanghai is one of the best examples. I find that it is very well balanced, and some buildings have iconic written all over them. Pudong is a symbol of the new china, and in some years time, when skyscrapers will be developed in more and more areas of the city, this skyline may be the best of the world for me. 4. Chicago. What makes this skyline so great for me is its position. The lake serves as a fantastic backdrop. A very photogenic skyline. 5. Tokyo. One of the most underrated skylines, in my opinion. It may not be the highest skyline, but as someone who really likes futuristic stuff, this city is AMAZING. The lighting and the architecture combine so well, and it feels like a scene from years in the future, especially at night. 6. Singapore. Not much to say, not the biggest skyline but very well organized and very aesthetically pleasing. 7. Kuala Lumpur. The petronas towers are one of my favorite, and the skyline is preety futuristic, very much to my taste. 8. Dubai. To be honest, I was considering even leaving this one out of my list. The buildings that make up the skyline look cool indeed, but they feel somehow strange. They seem almost deserted, this was a skyline that was made entirely for show, and that is very much visible. Also, I dont see much of a city, either. Seems like a bunch of buildings in the middle of a desert, but very cool buildings at that. 9. Moscow. I think this is a great skyline that will look even better in coming years. There is a wealth of different architectural styles, and somehow they look great together. It's very unique, a blend of traditional Russian buildings, awesome futuristic stuff I.e. the MIBC, and Stalinist skyscrapers, which are very iconic and beautiful. Being the largest city in Europe after Istanbul, Moscow truly never sleeps (unlike some European cities), and looks absolutely incredible at night. It may be a little gray during the day, but the lighting at night is some of the best in the world. 10. Seoul. Great colorful and futuristic skyline with lots of potential. When some currently u/c projects finish it will definetly go higher up my list. There are lots of other great skylines that I would love to mention(like london, i may even have put in in this if it wasnt for the gherkin, I cant stand that building) but ATM I dont feel like doing a top 20 list. Maybe sometime later I will. Last edited by ProdayuSlona; August 7th, 2012 at 04:17 AM. |

I agree. Seoul used to be in my top 10, and it may land right back in there in a few years.

It's amazing how few people put Bangkok in their top 10.

Balneário Camboriú - Brazil I know it's not one of the best in the world, but not bad for a city of only 108,000 inhabitants. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

1._New York-Just the density and the canyons is amazing, with all the proposals that will go up it will stay number one in my list to come.
2_Hong Kong-Beautiful, I love the mountains behind the skyline really adds to it, and very asian, i love it ![]() 3._Chicago-The river running through it and the lake really adds to the skyline, beautiful architecture and great buildings. 4._Shanghai-I really like the big 3, all thought i dont like all the highrise apartment buildings surrounding the man part of the city. 5._Singapore- I just love the mix of it, not the tallest skyline but it flows great. 6_Toronto- has great density and also flows good. 7_Dubai- I think some of dubai is over built and over done, but i have to give it credit looks good. 8_Los Angeles-Its not a very large skyline, but it looks good. 9_Kuala Lumpur-I dont like the skyline very much, but i love the petronas, and for that it gets number 9. 10_Paris-I dont see this on very many lists, but i feel that it deserves a spot on mine. Smaller skyline but still looks great.
