Florida legislature back in session, gaming will be a topic:

Politicians Are Negotiating Again On Revising Gaming Laws, Including Possibility Of Destination Resorts

Quote:
Could 2015 be the year that Florida legalizes destination casino resorts?

In an interview with the News Service of Florida, incoming House Speaker Steve Crisafulli signaled that he is open to the idea of destination resorts. In previous years, conservatives in the House have stymied gambling legislation, while the more moderate Senate has been more open to the idea.

A 2010 compact signed with the Seminole Tribe that allows table games expires later this year and is up for renegotiation. Last month, Governor Rick Scott held a secret meeting with executives from Miami-area casinos to discuss the pending negotiations with the Tribe.

Republican Releases Bill That Would Allow Casino Resorts In Miami, With High Entry Barrier

Quote:
A bill that would permit destination resorts was released by House Majority Leader Dana Young yesterday, but the cost will be high for potential casino operators.

Genting, Las Vegas Sands, or other interested operators would be required to:

•Build in Dade or Broward.

•Spend $2 billion (NOT including property acquisition costs).

•Buy out permits from existing pari-mutuel operators.

•Pay at least $175 million in taxes per year. Estimates are that casinos would bring in $500 million – meaning a 35% rate.

•90% of space at the resort must be devoted to non-gambling use.

… among many other requirements.

It's hard to swallow that $175 million annual tax commitment but the rest could pave the way for Resorts World

Genting reaffirms commitment to mixed use portion of Resorts World project

http://www.thenextmiami.com/index.ph...s-world-miami/

Quote:
Genting continues to move forward with plans for a mixed-use project on the former Miami Herald site, the company told shareholders in a recent presentation.

In the presentation, which was released last month, Genting said that plans for the mixed-use project at Resorts World Miami and demolition of the Herald building ‘is underway.’ That is similar to what the company has been telling shareholders for at least a year.
Attempts at getting a casino bill passed by the state legislature remain stymied. Genting will likely continue to slow-walk development at the site until there is a breakthrough...

Governor Signs Deal With Seminoles Allowing For A Casino In Miami

Quote:
Gov. Rick Scott signed an unexpected deal with the Seminole Tribe yesterday that opens the door for a resort casino offering slots in Dade.

Resorts World Miami and the Fontainebleau are expected to compete for the license. Just 750 slot machines and 750 instant racing machines will be permitted, and it would require approval from voters.

This is Great News Desertpunk, But ONLY If it's approved by Miami - Dade Voter's ONLY !!
Our SSC Friendly Family North American Super Moderator and SSC Forums Friend to Everyone with Great Skyline Photos and Great Updates Friend !!
The State of Florida Voters don't want Miami - Dade County to have Casinos,, But in Miami - Dade Voter's will pass it by 3 TO 1 with No objection !!
I Hope that it is Only Miami -Dade County Voter's, and It will be the best thing for Downtown Miami To Date near the A.A.A. Arena and the Huge Parks , Museums and Arts Center Area will Blossom overnight !!

Resorts World Pays Boulevard Shops Contractor, Work Continues

Quote:
Resorts World Miami has paid a contractor for work at The Boulevard Shops and construction there is continuing.

A lien had been filed by a contractor for unpaid labor and materials totaling $24,118.20. The contractor certified that the debt had been paid in a January 20 filing.

Brokers are marketing the space for retail or restaurant use. Proximity to Related Group’s upcoming Auberge project (below) is among the selling points.

Dubai and China Are beating USA on skyscrapers (and the rest of the world obviously), so USA really needs a new skyscraper with an amazing design and remarkable height. This one got an amazing architecture, but not a remarkable height comparing the rest of the world.
