^thats too bad. I remember this vividly from when I was very young. My dad and I always went there and enjoyed the vintage vehicles.

Oh well.

Correct, the developers, fearing that the building might get a recommendation from the Landmarks Board destroyed a lot of the original terra cotta. I remember The Stranger had a big article and some photos.

What's going to happen to the unique facade that's there now? This cool building in Vancouver either built a retro base or preserved one. Photo by Entheosfog - http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=1#post5417267
I was thinking about it and I remembered the Cristalla which I think is a much more successful integration of old existing facade into new construction.

Can't wait for this beautiful tower to start construction sometime in early 2013!

I'm with you on that! It's the proposed apartment tower I'd most like to live in. These tenants are going to have a front row seat to all the development in the Clise area of the Denny Triangle!

These beauties do not take up much room at all. It'd be nice to see them try again to put some on a few of our triangles.

Same here. I love Vancouver's density, but never envied its architectural approach. A Bulgarian friend of mine told me while looking for a home in the West End (it's less steel-and-glass, but similar basic idea) that the neighbourhood reminded her of a Soviet apartment block. Yech.

Like armies closing in to pounce! Via6 from the Southwest. Insignia from the Northwest. Unnamed 39-story on 8th from the Southeast. Who will close in on Amazon from the ample and open East-Northeast?

It's amazing to know how much this area has developed since the US Courthouse was erected in 2004. I'm excited to see it continue to grow within the next 3 to 5 years.

One might even suspect it's been a concerted effort to surround the {deleted} of a courthouse and make it all but invisible to visitors.

Hey! Be nice to my courthouse. We worked long and hard on that project. Lots more to it than meets the eye. It is much more technical and complicated than a high-rise apartment or condo building. Believe me, I've worked on both types of projects (4 federal courthouses and several high-rise residential projects -- amongst hundreds of others). Architectural complaints should be directed to NBBJ and/or GSA Arctic Region. But I suppose it is too late for that!

^That's awesome! I remember when they painted the space needle orange for the 40th anniversary. I can't believe it's been 10 years already and the 50th anniversary. 2002 seems like a couple years ago to me.

I don't get the hate for the courthouse. I think it's quite handsome.

My only problem with it is the mostly useless (though beautiful) plaza out front. Though I blame our wasteful land use code for that, not the architects.

What's wrong with the plaza? It's more like a small park. What should be there instead?

I like the courthouse. It is very different looking skyscraper compared to many others.
