I think the courthouse is a home run. Regarding the plaza--the Oklahoma City bombing changed the way that federal courthouses are designed. The plaza is actually part of the security system. During site selection for the courthouse, one proposal was for it to be built over I-5 south of Freeway Park. That would have been a security nightmare.

Sorry about that cpm. I am aware of some of the stuff involved. But hey, it's fine and just right for a government building, say, in Tokyo. Of course, none of us will ever be admitted to the Shamballa on the upper floors. As for the looks, I rest my case

I rarely see more than a person or two there, yet there's enough space to build a whole seperate tower. And the enterance requires a whole lot of stairs and distance, rather than being placed on the street. As I said, that's mostly Seattle's fault.

It's most domestic terrorists' fault.

I love the entire layout. I always see a bunch of people there during lunchtime on sunny days.

I, too, enjoy the courthouse. I particularly like how the park is within the security domain of the property, so there are no bums there! More buildings should have such effective security.
Re: 2030, I am seriously digging that rendering. I just wish they'd put the Amazon buildings in, even as transparent blocks. |

I liked the glass peak/pinnacle on the "crown" of the building in the preliminary rendering, but it seems to have disappeared in the night rendering. That's a little bit disappointing, because the building just looks a little more bland now than it did before.

I think the plaza could be fixed with the addition of one or two food trucks.

I'm a big fan of the courthouse and the plaza! NBBJ and whom ever designed the plaza did a fabulous job!

Oh, I totally agree with you guys about the plaza. Bomb-proofing, when done properly, can be very restful and inviting. Just don't look up at the top of that thing.

You don't like the hat? I think it's kinda cool, adds something interesting to the skyline.

That looks better than this. At least the 'hat' doesn't look like an afterthought.

From todays DJC.
http://www.djc.com/news/re/12046458.html October 24, 2012 GID buys land for 39-story tower By JOURNAL STAFF SEATTLE — Boston-based GID has completed a deal to purchase land for a 39-story apartment tower in the Denny Triangle. The company bought the land at 2030 Eighth Ave. for $13.4 million, according to property records. Construction is expected to start next spring, with opening set for 2015. The 355-unit complex was planned as condos by Cascadia Holdings LLC, a group of local businessmen that previously owned the site. Weber Thompson designed the project, and then retooled it as apartments. The firm also is the interior designer and landscape architect. The engineers are Magnusson Klemencic Associates, structural; KPFF, civil; and Rushing, MEP. Morrison Hershfield is the envelope specialist. The General Investment & Development Companies (GID) are diversified investment companies, according to the company website. |

I love envelope specialists. We need more people specialising in envelopes. It will help with density.
