So since they're doing things like direct flights from Kralc to Caticlan with connections from Korea these days, we can undoubtedly say that Boracay is big time.

But the days when it was such a quiet, uncommercialized place have long gone by. Some of the people I know who have been there say that while you can do more stuff there now, it's never going to be as great as it was before it became the premier resort destination in the Philippines.

My question is, is there a place these days that will be the next Boracay? El Nido Palawan? Somewhere else?

Some VERY good news. The Peninsula group has reportedly acquired the shuttered Cebu Plaza Hotel (which was formerly affiliated with the Intercontinental Group). It used to be Cebu's premier hotel and it's got a pretty good hillside location overlooking the city. So hopefully we can soon see it be refurbished and re-branded as The Peninsula Cebu. Word is, the demand for 5-star accomodations in Cebu far outpaces the supply so setting up deluxe hotels is now a top priority over there. The dormant Sheraton property beside SM Cebu may also be revived.

Great news! Cebu's 5 star demand is high because many companies like to hold business meetings and conferences in Cebu so that they can tie-in business with leisure. There are also many product launches, etc in Cebu hotels.

A refurbished Cebu Plaza Hotel turned into Peninsula Cebu will make the hotel very nice. And good that Sheraton might be revived. That will make a Marriott, Peninsula, Hilton, Shangri-la and Sheraton in Cebu and Mactan

It is Sheraton, Francis It is right next to SM, and i think Henry Sy had something to do with its development.

oh, that makes a little sense. But i think it also had to do with some financial stuff.

I was gonna say...."whats wrong with the soil? they cant plant the plants for the hotel gardens, then?" hehehe

Robinsons Land allots PhP21M for hotel upgrade

Property developer Robinsons Land Corp. is spending PhP21 million to renovate and modernize the twelve-year-old Cebu Midtown Hotel in a bid to attract more tourists.

The project has obtained non-pioneer tax incentives from the Board of Investments (BoI) as a tourism-related activity under the Investment Priorities Plan, an annual listing of the government's preferred economic activities. Robinsons Land will upgrade 96 hotel rooms including hallways, but without changing the original structures and amenities.

A first-class hotel on Fuente Osmeņa, Cebu's newly developed commercial district, Cebu Midtown has 200 guestrooms -- 76 standard rooms, 113 deluxe rooms, and 11 suites. Facilities include a restaurant, a bar, a fitness center, a pool, and banquet halls. The grand ballroom, which can be converted into five function rooms, can accommodate 400 to as much as 800 people. -- F. F. Salvosa II
