Circle Health Private Hospital | Pebble Mill | Medical/Research

Construction to begin on £22m hospital
April 05 2017 | Alex Turner

Construction of Circle Health’s £22m hospital in Edgbaston will begin this month after contracts were signed.

The hospital will be part of the Edgbaston Medical Quarter and will accommodate six operating theatres, 18 inpatient bedrooms and several large recovery suites.

It will deliver large scale rehabilitation services, aiming to fill a void in the UK patient pathway.

Roger Pulham, health director for Gleeds, the development’s project and cost manager, said: “The leading-edge project incorporates innovative design and planning that responds to the demands of today’s healthcare sector, allowing Circle Health to facilitate the best possible provision for the years to come.”

Construction of the facility is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2018, with the aim of treating patients from early 2019.

Paolo Pieri, chief executive of Circle Health, added: “The intention is also to add a significant number of beds for physical and neurological rehabilitation, along with the latest rehabilitation technology.”

The Lewis Building

Renovation of former Lewis's Department Store

A famous former department store name will return to Birmingham city centre next year after a 25-year absence as part of major revamp of an office building.

Temple Court, which overlooks the newly opened tram extension in Bull Street, will be renamed The Lewis Building as a homage to its founder and former use.

Philanthropist David Lewis founded the department store chain Lewis's in Liverpool in the 1850s and opened up several shops, with its Birmingham branch moving to Bull Street in the 1920s.

HS2

London to Birmingham high speed rail

Construction imminent - HS2 College Birmingham under construction.

Indicative design - Birmingham City Centre

HS2 has launched the tender process for the design and development of four railway stations on the high speed rail project.

The contract notice seeks design teams for new stations at Birmingham Curzon Street, Birmingham Interchange and London’s Old Oak Common, as well as a major expansion of London Euston.

In a separate procurement process, HS2 is also seeking a master development partner for Euston. The winning bidder will advise on, and later take forward, development opportunities for new homes, offices and retail space above and around the revamped station. Up to 21 hectares of development space is in play with the HS2 Euston development.

Bidders for both stations design and the Euston master development partner are expected to be shortlisted in the summer, with contracts signed early next year. The stations design work will be split into four packages.

HS2 commercial director Beth West said: “We’re looking for the brightest and the best from across the industry to help us deliver one of the most tangible legacies of the HS2 project – three brand stations and a major expansion of London Euston.

“All four present unique challenges and opportunities for the winning bidders. Together we will deliver world-class designs that help unlock wider local regeneration opportunities and provide unparalleled levels of accessibility, ease and convenience for the travelling public.”

Flatest, Landmark Sculpture in the World!

The Singing Clock

Prepare to be completely 'underwhelmed'! After a lengthy consultation period involving half a dozen entries, Birmingham's new £2 million "landmark" scupture to be situated outside the new HS2 High Speed Train Terminus is to be an aural clock ....... on the ground.

Without doubt, this will cause great debate .... negative and otherwise in the city and beyond.

Enjoy.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...psz-public-art

Turner Prize-winning Susan Philipsz is a sculptor in sound, and her proposed sculpture is an aural clock, comprising of 12 digits, representing the 12 tones of the musical scales, using different vocal combinations for each digit. There will be a need for between 156 and 1,092 different voices in total, and Susan will seek the help of the people of Birmingham and Birmingham Conservatoire.

If you're in a hurry leaving the new station, you will probably miss it!

Hanging Gardens of Birmingham

Garden Hill - Digbeth, Creative Quarter

Birmingham could soon get its own version of the hanging gardens of Babylon after plans were submitted for a pair of soaring tree-covered towers, the first of its kind in Britain.

The new scheme, intended for Digbeth, a creative area east of the centre, would comprise two 25-storey towers with planted terraces, allowing each of the 500 residents access to green space.

Garden Hill is intended to appeal to international students and could be built entirely of cross-laminated timber to boost its environmentally-friendly image. It has already been funded with £70 million from a Chinese private equity company, Prosperous Global China Capital.

Smithfield

Regeneration of city centre markets area.

"Plans to regenerate the Smithfield site in Birmingham city centre have taken another step forward with the appointment of an agency to find a development partner and create a masterplan.

Birmingham City Council has appointed Cushman & Wakefield to the project which will see the 34-acre plot turned into a new leisure, retail and residential destination.

The site off Upper Dean Street, close to the Bullring ring shopping centre, is home to Birmingham Wholesale Markets but this is due to relocate to a new, purpose-built facility in Witton by the end of 2017.

The overarching vision for Birmingham Smithfield is for a landmark, sustainable, mixed-use development including a market, independent retailers, restaurants, hotels, public square and residential accommodation."

The site currently.

The proposals.
