I wish that Brum would quit teasing us with these skyscrapers and just build one.

Let's just hope V gets a kickstart, ideally I would have placed it at the original Arena Central height of 180m, alongside the 200m + height of the Regal and BST up the road. The way the economy is going though with doom mongerirng headlines doesn't help kickstart this soon enough.

V Tower is 152m.

Wether this proposal go's ahead as it is is debateable.

Original Arena Central has gone from 245, to 187 to 175 to 152 so who knows.

What does the blue lights on the plaza/sidewalk outside the library represent? If anything. Though they look cool (probably more so at night) I can only imagine the potential danger.

Birmingham (UK) National Indoor Arena unveils £20.6m Broadway Malyan update

The modernisation of the National Indoor Arena (NIA) aims to take advantage of its unique location on the city’s canal side and will feature a new showcase entrance straight from Brindleyplace into the arena, with large glazed views over the water and the city.

Construction work is set to get underway in late 2012 and will include improved facilities and a much greater emphasis on both the pre- and post-show experience. The flow within the venue will be made much easier, increasing the ease of access and comfort for promoters, artists and visitors to the building. Coupled with this is the new entrance, which will secure the venue as a focal point for the city.

The NIA has been a huge draw for visitors to Birmingham since it was officially opened in 1991 by Olympic athlete Linford Christie; the flexible arena has since gained a global reputation for world-class sports, headline comedy and music, and a diverse range of crowd-pleasing live entertainment.

The improvement work at the venue, which has not been refurbished since its opening, is key to continuing its long term success of the venue. The new design includes further opportunities for retail units with an extra 5,926 sq m of pre and post show space added to the 7,500 sq m of refurbishment that will take place, ensuring that the new NIA maintains its position as a destination to visit in Birmingham city centre.

Aidan Ridyard, Director at Broadway Malyan, commented: “We are genuinely excited at the opportunity of beginning the reinvention of this pivotal section of Birmingham’s waterfront fabric and hope to create a space which embraces this remarkable location whilst visually celebrating the venue’s innate vitality. We see the new NIA as a waterfront window onto the excitement of the entertainment within and the heritage of our city surrounding it.”

They are spotlights in the ground. They don't stick out. Don't worry.

To b honest that design is dead in the water. Like so many before it.

Still there are some high quality mid rises going up in the city.

Not much to update anybody on in truth!!

Compare Birmingham and Rotterdam who were on a level playing field 15 years ago the change in fortunes is outstanding.
