How Many Skyscrapers Does Australia Have?

Hi All,

Just a straight forward question, how many skyscrapers does each of Australia's major cities have and I don't mean how many skysrapers are over a certain limit I mean in total all together

For example sydney I think would have over a thousand skyscrapers easy but I dont have certain figure. I Would like to also know the skyscraper total for all the other major cities.

I need to know this because I am trying to do a comparison with Toronto which has 1,747 High-rises city wide and I dont think Sydney would be much less

Canadian "cities" are just that: the local council areas unless they specify they're talking about the metro.

Toronto + Missasomethingaga + Brampton + etc etc

Over 150m, Sydney 26, Toronto 23. Over 50m, Sydney 445 Toronto 406.

Toronto has a lot more low rise than Sydney, probably because apartment living is less popular in Sydney.

Well if you want to know how many skyscrapers, then you have to define a certain limit, otherwise what is a skyscraper and what isn't? And note that there is a big difference between a highrise, and a skyscraper. A highrise is usually considered to be over 12 storeys or 35 metres. The threshold for being considered a skyscraper can be as high as 152m depending on your opinion. But it sounds like you are talking about highrises. So here are the number of completed buildings of 12 storeys or over listed for Australian cities on Emporis (which is bound to be a bit out of date for most cities). Cul, I included all the listed metro cities for Sydney, 865 is all they got listed.

Sydney - 865
Melbourne - 484
Gold Coast - 269
Brisbane - 233
Perth - 121
Adelaide - 86

Cheers everyone for the figures. Cul says 1300 and orio says 865. Well I was talking about high-rises because the figure I have for Toronto is 1747 total skyscrapers from 12 stories up.

I am interested in this because I always thought toronto and sydney were similar sized cities but it appears that toronto is just massive and the skyline pictures Ive seen of it can be quite deceptive.

So technically would be foolish for me to continue thinking toronto and sydney are similar sized cities in terms of skyscrapers or do I have to continue finding a city that is close match for sydney.

Toronto is much bigger than Sydney in terms of skyscrapers, downtown size, population, etc.

6 200m+ towers u/c in Toronto atm. Living Shangri-la and four seasons have turned out very well and the ice condos are gonna be another cracker of a project. That trump build however isn't the best. The city seems to be going through a similar boom to Melbourne but on a larger scale with everything being focussed on resi's atm but there are a few office towers u/c too. They really need to get rid of that cockhead Rob Ford before he totally ****s the waterfront.

Emporis is incredibly outdated btw and very few new projects have been put in...

Those absolute world towers are probably the face of Missisauga now. It's about as far out from downtown Toronto as Dandenong is for the Melbourne CBD.

sydnys count is approx 1100. so thats 200 less then 1300. and yes easily 200 proposals including sydney and all the 15 or so metro cities that surround it.
