STOCKHOLM - A Day in The Life of a Stockholmer

Stockholm Capital of Sweden

As some of you know, I recently moved to Stockholm from Auckland, New Zealand where I was a long term resident. Here are some photographs of my life in Stockholm where I will catalogue various areas of my new city from the suburban areas, to the various neighbourhoods that make up the inner city. I will try to give you all a flavour for what us Stockholm residents see on a daily basis.

I hope you enjoy my photographs!

Nice pictures. How's the weather there these days? I see people wear jackets, it's still 25+ degrees here in Southern Europe.

Thanks, Mr KF! I actually have a really nice collection of Auckland photos that I will upload at some point to share. I went for an extensive tour of the city centre before I left and I hope to show them too once I have the time to sit down and sort them.

My first few days I spent in shorts and T-shirt here (I've been here two and a half weeks now). These days, jeans and T-shirt are warm enough outside. As Skrapebook says, it'll get warmer this weekend too!

Thank you! I hope to share more over time. I have over 400 photos thus far so will feed them out in drips and drabs as well as capturing a few every weekend when I do some tours of the lesser-known parts of Stockholm.

Another set of photographs showing off some more sights of the city including a couple of shots of a more "suburban" area.

Stockholm rules!
Great captures of this north European diamond of a city!
In fact you have photographed many places I´ve been at quite recetly just the past week.
So I might actually be in there somewhere.

Stockholm looks sophisticated, characterful and livable. The 'idealic' Europe we imagine. It would be good to see the 'other side of the tracks' of this city as well. Nonetheless, your pictures are great. Keep them coming!

Well, I live "on the other side of the tracks" in one of the "poorest" neighbourhoods in Stockholm. You still see young kids catching the metro alone, bikes left unattended and children playing in the parks, in the playgrounds (on climbing frames and on the swings) etc. I can show you some pictures of my area later on once I finish my city centre tour.

Great thread Svarty! I love the everyday street shots, gives a good indication of the vibe of the place. I felt instantly at home in Stockholm, I think its a brilliant city, and (although I know some locals would disagree) imo they really seem to have cottoned onto how to do things right.

Im sure you and yours are both settling in well. I wish you a really enjoyable experience in your new home town mate. Also, I look forward to watching this thread develop mate.

Cheers!

Thanks, Luka! I was hoping to catch you for a beer in Auckland before I left New Zealand, but unfortunately you weren't up from ChCh while I was there.

I agree with you, Stockholm seems to do a LOT right. It's not all a bed of roses, but it is certainly as close to a well functioning city with incredibly safe streets (heck, I have walked around some of the "poorest" districts at night alone and felt safe), amazing infrastructure and a good mixture between urbanity and liveability with lots of water and green space here.

As soon as I find a better photo host, I will be posting more photos of the suburbs of Stockholm to show a less well-known side of this city. I've already posted them all on Facebook, but because I need a separate host for here, I can't post them yet. Will do in the future! Stay in touch, mate!

Svarmetall, if you press F5 when viewing a photo on Facebook it will change to the old mode and you will be able to right click it and copy the link.

Great pics, btw

Thanks everyone for your comments!

In contrast to the other posts, I'm now going to show off a few "less seen" areas of Stockholm.

Suburbs of Stockholm

Liljeholmen

Årstadal

Globen Arena

Hammarby Sjöstad

Hässelby strand
