Minneapolis - darkness and light

I just realized I forgot to post one of my favorite Minneapolis phototours in this section. This is from November and December of last year. It is not the most pleasant view of the city but I like the photography in it.

It seems that you like to take pictures of people more than pictures of buildings. Fantastic photos. Coldness, dark, light, people, buildings - everything looks very real.

Great pictures, I like snow, cold weather and gray sky. I like Mid-West.

Very depressing, don't take me wrong but some images give the impression of a very poor country. I'm sure it's not the case but still...

Your talent is, definitely, photographing people: your photographs afford great dignity to your subjects.

Keep doing what it is that you love - we love it! I Love it!

I enjoy doing both, sometimes I do more people shots sometimes I do more architecture shots. I think both are important to show what the city is like. A lot of it is determined by the lighting when I am out photographing, some conditions are more conducive to people, some to buildings. When it is sunny in the middle of winter that is the best light of the year for photographing people. When it is overcast the people shots don't work as well so usually I photograph other stuff.

Some of these photos were taken in the poorest part of the city on overcast days in the winter so it is not surprising that they would have that effect.

I've actually been in a bit of a slump lately as far as people shots go but it seems to be turning around. I am glad you enjoy them.

The beauty of a really cold city in the middle of winter is something that is lost on most people but I agree with you. When it is -5f/-20c it is a good time for a walk. Everything has a completely different feel when it is like that. It is like walking on the moon.
