The Christchurch I remember......

My first visit to New Zealand, in 2002 was to North Island ,in and around Auckland. A very enjoyable trip, so I was delighted to discover that two of my children planned to move to the Christchurch area. My son moved in 2004, followed by one of my daughters in 2007, living in Rangiora / Oxford area.

My wife and I have had the pleasure of visting them on four trips from 2005 to 2010. Thanks to SSC ,I made contact with two wonderful ambassadors for the city, Davee and Milan Luka, both gave me the visitors tour, with excellent photo opportunities. Thanks guys.

Our next trip, early in 2012, we will be visiting a very different city, shattered by Quakes, but as Luka has said on his thread, ready to rise from the rubble.

I felt compelled, to show many of the photo`s I have taken of the city from 2005 up to my last visit in January 2010.......this is CHRISTCHURCH as I remember it.......

Part One---Cathedral Square

Part Two-- River Avon

Part Three--City Mall, Cashel Street Area.

Woody what a great thread. Thanks for taking the time to put these photos together. I hope you have more by the way. In one way its nice to remember what we used to have... but also very sad when you look at photos like the one below and realise none of those buildings exist anymore.

City Mall area # 2

Thanks Guys for your comments, Luka more photo`s of the CBD, and a nice cold beer would go down a treat, with the heat we have suffered these past few days

The long and winding road to recovery has started, so I raise my glass to the good folk of Christchurch, knowing that a new city will rise from the desolation.

More photo`s to come...........

Stunning photographs Woody. I was there exactly 1 month before the devastating quake and like yourself we are very lucky to have captured scenes that no longer exist. Thanks mate

Cheers Sydney, pleased to have seen the city before the quakes, on my last walk-about
with Luka ( well more of a stagger ,bar hopping) the last thing you would expect is mother nature to strike with such tragic results.

Once again more great photos Woody. We are just into spring (meaning a few high teen days but still plenty of cold ones too) and your shots make me really look forward to summer mate.

Beautiful scenes! Saddening, yes. But, I like to think CC will rise better and more beautiful than ever.
