ADDIS ABABA | Midroc City Center Development | U/C

Alot has been posted about this project....I think it was supposed to have been built years ago and is still not entirely a sure thing even now. There have different designs floating around. I think we had a few of them here on SSC before. In the old East Africa thread if Im not mistaken.

Yes it is. What kind of question is that?

Yosef, I wouldn't hold my breath for it happening any time soon. Al Amoudi is notoriously slow when it comes to these things.

This latest render looks better than the twin tower render, those towers were too thin.

I preferred the twin towers, though I think they belonged on the other end of Churchill Ave.

Nothing wrong design-wise.

This however, looks nice, and I'm particularly fond of the open air concept.

I'm curious whether those stores are actually lined up or filler- it does seem too nice.

But of course, they chose the worse design.

Simfan,

I always thought that 'bigger was better'. However, the smaller tower of the newer designs look much better!

It also appears they chose the 1st one- the worse one, of course.

Simfan34,

Based on the google earth image posted here, I beilieve that his is the final design being built. I can say that because the foundations being built really match the synthetic plan of this design!

I can see some foundation work, and it seems to correspond with the render.

Abesha ,if you have google earth on your computer check it there .It shows even the cranes .

But I used to enjoy the old google map of addis (the 2010 one) it used to be much clear and have high resolution. The new one is like somebody taken a picture with cheap camera

Abnet,
Yosef,

Are you guys not aware that google earth has a feature that allows you to view any prior images. For exapmle, you can view Addis, in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008,...alll the way back to 2002. I like this feature because it helps me to compare and contarst how the city has progrssed in its development through those years.

Yeah I am aware. I use that feature sometimes. 12/2008 is my favorite one. It is bright, clear and crisp. The present one is very low quality, and between 12/2009 up to 6/2011 it is either too dark and/or too cloudy (although they are still better than the present update).

Sometimes I go back and look at the 1981 (edit:1986, not 81) images also.

sorry, I meant to say 1986...and no, its not. better than 1973 but very blurry. you can barely make out certain landmarks like the airport and such. Good only for city size & sprawl comparison purposes.
