Newcastle: the jewel in the north.
I am aware that there are already a few existing threads which cover, to some degree or other, the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, in the far north-east of England. I, would, however, like to start this new thread which will contain my own photographs of Newcastle.
My son has just started university in the city, and so I will be making visits there over the next few years - and it is my intention to explore the city and the immediate areas surrounding it. I will post pictures as and when I visit. The following pictures were taken last weekend. Newcastle is a city founded on two main industries: shipping and ship building, and, in the surrounding areas, coal mining - (and farming). It has a handsome Georgian core, and an appealing waterfront based around the River Tyne |
