That building is called The Sage; it is a concert hall - with two auditoriums, plus many other rooms and spaces for all things music-related.

My pleasure. Newcastle is a fine city. I'll be back up with you next month ( son at the university) -and hope to take more photographs. I really want to get a picture of the cows on Town Moor. Can you tell me when are they returned for the season?

Great thread, Jane!

Newcastle really is a jewel—how is this city not more well-known? It's beautifully preserved, but with lots of impressive modern architecture as well. And the bridges! All sorts of beauties crossing the Tyne.

Newcastle, quietly, goes about its thing, being very attractive, livable and friendly.
It is the English city closest to the scottish border & ,therefore, far from London, and this is, probably, why it does not attract more visitors. ( lots of visitors to England only make it as far as London &, perhaps, Windsor & Oxford) But it does receive quite a lot of Norwegian visitors, I understand.

Lovely city!

I'm an Australian sitting here in Brisbane with my now homesick Geordie wife after seeing your beautiful photos. Lived in Newcastle for four years and it is a lovely city.

Thank you, great to see all the changes. Apart from the new bike scheme there seems to be far more general public bikes in your shots as well. Looks like a progressive mayor has been at work.

I can't wait for more photos of another underrated city in England.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the images of Newcastle. I was in the city, briefly, recently, but unfortunately was not able to get out and about and take photographs. I will on my next visit.

If you are interested you can see pictures of the area just to the north and west of Newcastle on my English counties thread: Northumberland.
