The Kölner Dom is massive, too. I've seen skyscrapers more than twice its height, yet it still feels absolutely huge. I think the Sagrada Familia will be even more impressive when finished.

I saw it last year. The interior is stunning. I wish I could have admired the exterior more but my visit to Barcelona coincided with lots of rain :/

Eighty-six years later, the church still isn't complete. But according to Jordi Faulí, the current architect on the magnificent life-sized sand castle, it'll be done by 2026. This is what it's going to look like.

In seven Dutch cinemas the documentary Sagrada - El de la Misteria Creació (2012) is running. The film revolves around the still under construction Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and its designer Antoni Gaudí.

They claim the building will be finished in 2026 but what are key milestones to look forward to in the coming years?
And what are they going to do about the two building blocks at the Glory facade?

The to date is still the undisputed champion of all churches, the Ulmer Münster with 162 meters.

Sagrada Familia is not cathedral, just a basilica

The dimensions of the Cologne cathedral feels more impressive, despite Ulm being a few meters taller.

I guess the reason is that the Cologne cathedral has two towers instead of one, the two making up a massive front fassade. Additionally, I believe the roof of the ship is taller in the Cologne cathedral than in the Ulm cathedral.

Finally, the Cologne cathedral actually stands on a small height (ca. 10 meters above the Rhine river), which means you actually see it from below if close up. From a distance it gives its skyline-effect a few extra meters.

Touring Barcelona's Sagrada Familia

Quote:
A few months ago, chief architect Jordi Fauli announced that an end was in sight for the construction of Barcelona's Sagrada Familia basilica, with a completion date tentatively scheduled for 2026. After over 100 years of ongoing work, Antoni Gaudi's masterpiece is now 70% complete. Within the next decade, the basilica will we dotted with several new towers bringing their total number to 18, the tallest of which — The Tower of Jesus Christ — will soar 170 metres in the city's skies.
