I think this street is actually called "Kohlmarkt".

Did they recently renovate the Michaelertor. Looks so bright and clean.

I think Vienna is, together with Prague, the most beautiful city (> 1 million inhabitants) in the world!

Oh, you're right, looks I've mixed it up with the near one. Indeed, the Gate and left wing seemed recently refreshed.

Bratislava

Coming in Bratislava just after seeing Vienna is a very interesting comparasion. Vienna is full of monumentality and glamor, Bratislava a compact mosaic city with diverse architecture of different periods and a really cool relaxed atmospere. Felt quite homely here, and I liked Slovak language, has many similarities with Slovenian (strange huh) so I understood majority I read, but not so much when listening.

How was the Hotel? I read some rather bad things on Trip Advisor about it when I decided to book a place in Bratislava.

Well, the hotel is in "orginal retro style" what means, that there were any reconstructions since the fall of communism. Maybe that is the reason why there are so many bad reviews. Anyway, hotel will be renovated in the next year.

Union.SLO, thank you for the beautiful pics! I must say, that I dont remember better pics from the UFO observation deck

As Amrafel said, it's easily visible there were scarce investments for a longer time, it's quite neglected, furniture in room wasn't in the best shape, but at least it was decent clean and staff was very friendly. Let's say interesting "retro" stay, judging by the materials, enterance hall,.. this must've been much better hotel once and it has potential, so it's good to hear about the renovation. From the Kyjev Hotel, there are nice vistas on the city:

Bratislava looks very pleasant. I've seen it from a distance from the train between Vienna and Budapest back in 1978. Seeing high-rise buildings, factory chimneys and spires on the horizon had me puzzled at the time as I had no idea it was so close to Vienna.
