One of my favourites to be cancelled was The Elphinstone Tower. Its nothing special but it was going to be glasgows first proper tall building.

Columbus Circle redevelopment New York City

This telescopic 130 story tower was proposed in 1985 for the site of what eventually became the twin-towered Time Warner Center in 2003.

Yay. That phallus would have been awesome there. Who designed it?

My all time favorite would be Foster's Tokyo Millenium Tower

My second would be KPF's rejected entry for the Southwest Center competition in Houston in the 1980s. The picture below does not do this design justice...I saw a large ground-level render in a book a long time ago, and was hugely impressed.

So many others, can't list them all, so pics of a few:

I know that last one was built...but I liked the original circle.

I think the Sjanghai World Financial Center had to be entirely closed at the top.

"Tall Tower" Chicago

Quote:
Tall Tower was to be a three-footed, needle-shaped broadcast mast by Cesar Pelli that was supposed to rise 2,000 feet along Lake Shore Drive. The location where it was supposed to go is still a surface parking lot. Plans were scrapped in 2006.
The "twin tweezers" (Tall Tower and Fordham Spire) as they might have looked:

^ Not sure about that one. Just as the Spire, it doesn't really suit Chicago well. I think it's better to have both cancelled forever.

Forgive my ignorance but is Chicago spire definitely canceled ?

What about the foundation they dig for that tower?

The cloudscraper would have been 300-something feet tall and a really cool Minneapolis building IMO:

was proposed in 1888 i believe

^ It's not showing up.

Rascian: For the moment, Chicago Spire is officially cancelled and as dead as a doornail.

Fourth Presbyterian Tower Chicago

This 71 story tower was cancelled in 2010 due to NIMBYs.

Indeed. I would still be positively giddy if I had been able to see that in my city everyday for the last twenty years.

Hopefully one day it is resurrected and brought to fruition.

I was interested in such thread and just found it with google. But it seems a lot of people here don't get the idea posting visions or never approved ones. As for the towers that really had a chance to get build my favorite are:

Russian Tower:

Nakheel Tower: not so much by the beauty of the design but more because of the height, unique approach of four cores, sky gardens, and most because it would have been the first tower that could honestly be called the vertical city:

India Tower: this one maybe not completely dead, but still great design enough to fit there.

The Russia Tower is beautiful. Btw what happened to the India Tower? Somehow I can't access the thread.
