Indeed I can't access it too. But I follow the indian section thread HERE. Generally the project is on hold for about half a year now. In Indian section there is discussion about political and legal issues connected with the project. Apparently the developer company is involved in some big political scam. Several high profile employees went to prison. Now officials deciding what will happen to the developers projects, but from what I understand it has a very low chance to proceed at the moment

Funny? It's rather ridicilous.

But anyway, those Stalin skyscrapers weren't "destroyed", like VitMos stated, but just never built. For the Palace Of The Soviets, they've torn down the Christ Saviour Church (that luckily got reconstructed some years ago) - and created a base already. But never continued to build. Then it was just some disturbingly ugly swimming bassin for decades.

That would have been one iconic pair of towers!

Hardly exciting, nonetheless impressive if you imagine the effect of its size and the appropriated material, a proposed Nazi-Highrise for Hamburg

The building in Zaryadye has been constructed on 15 floors. A palace of the Soviets on 11 floors in 1941

From Belgrade

Mitic department store
Construction started in 1940 but was stopped because of the war and never resumed. The foundation hole was not filled up until the 1960, so the area around the plot ( still empty) is known as Mitic hole.

Teokarevic palace
Construction should started in 1940 but it was canceled because of the war

Technically not canceled, the building was finished but this was the second prize design for Albania palace in 1938. Very modern for its time.

I wonder how many really awesome art-deco building proposals were killed due to world war II... sigh..

I've found more beautiful buildings that were cancelled. The Newark Grant USA Tower, Shaumburg Skyneedle and the New York Stock Exchange Tower in the pic below:

And the 9th Figueroa Tower in LA in the pic below:

Somewhere in the area of 500 feet tall. Its so wide is the thing.

Would have been built around 1909, the Civic center in Chicago. My only regret greater than the fact that it was not built is that it didn't have better proportions and wasn't even BIGGER.
