South Lake Union Development News
There's just too much going on for this not to be a thread and it is long overdue for one to be created. So dump here all news of development of commercial, residential, science and research, as well as roads and parks.

Amazon clearly needs to build a skyscraper with all this growth.

I know we would all love another really tall skyscraper, however, it is pretty amazing how landing Amazon has helped turn South Lake Union into more than just that place you drive by to get to Seattle Center.

Hey, they already took 1918 8th off the market and are apparently looking at West 8th, too: http://www.geekwire.com/2011/amazon-...-8th-expansion. That's some skyscraperage, and taking that office space off the market certainly enables more.
The coup would obviously be for Amazon to be growing fast enough to be the tenant for the Clise properties, but even with all the growth, that seems far-fetched. |

Thats dreaming really big! But I like your style! And yea taking up all that space is good because of the impact on citywide vacancy area but I really want something dramatic and new for the skyline- like 5th and Madison! If they tied down amazon.com or a comparable then surely they'd start building with construction costs being what they are right now.

I would LOVE to see 5th and Columbia resurrected for Amazon. Only downfall is it would be a bit far removed from the SLU campus.

Too bad they can't just move the building to the Clise properties.

It was so specifically designed for that location, what with the stilts and all. And I would be soo bummed to see it shortened when in fact it should be taller!
But it basically seems like we're on Team Amazon Skyscraper if it were possible. |

Excellent.
Heres a couple of shots of that block from my SLU walking tour last winter. I walked around and identified lots/blocks that I would like to see be developed/better used, etc, and this was one of them. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr
