Not only him, but to host the Olympics in 2016 the international olympic committee agrees too.

A city is not only popular because of buildings and streets, but also by its magic. In this case, you probably do not know Rio de Janeiro and its vibe.

But of course each city in the list has its charm...

All great cities, but I think most people will associate Rio as having that something else, that something magical; the lifestyle, ocean beaches, lush landscape, beautiful architecture, great weather, colour, fiesta, allegria, diversity, warm fun-loving people, etc all in one place, as can be seen with these great photos.

Well done tchello, I like every picture, but especially the old buildings you captured. Looks like there's an area with a high concentration of historic buildings from photo 71. onwards. Can you tell me the name of this area? Also photo 77. shows what looks like an aqueduct. Is that still functional?

Ty skymantle!

Yes it is an aqueduct. A double tier of arches 64m/210ft high and 270m/295yds long, part of the Aqueduto da Carioca, which was constructed in the colonial period to bring water from the Carioca river to Largo da Carioca. This was the first major civil building project carried out in Rio de Janeiro.

Nowadays the aqueduct is just a monument.
