Sorry, but those songs you mentioned are too sickly sweet for London, If you have ever been on the Tube you will know that the phrases 'I believe', 'you and me' or 'power of a dream' will never have occurred to those around you while staring at the ground or reading the Metro!

In my opinion the only song associated with the olympics (but not the official olympic song) that is a true classic was Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. This was an amazing piece that was incredibly uplifting and telling of the rich culture that it sprang from. The rest really are just fluff. I mean, come on, Australia's Absolutely Everybody and Atlanta's Reach are just sooooo naff and generic that is makes me cringe. Its like Gary Barlow's Jubliee song, its trying to please too many people and ends up being totally forgettable. And maybe the Muse track will be forgotten too, but as far as Olympic tracks go, this really captures the energy and the struggle of the athletes in their fight to become the best; better than any other olympic song I have heard. Its dramatic and I really like it.

olympic song doesnt need to be glamours like adele, linkinpark or bieber song,..what it need is special, meaningful and bring back memory in next years..the type that only can be heard exclusively on this kind of event, not that always play on radio or award show..

only song like "i believe, the flame, hand in hand" can make you feel moment of the past olympic,rite?..not ordinary linkin park, queens, muse, hardrock song.that we heard everyday, make it less exclusiveness

"Barcelona" was one of the official songs and was to be sung at the opening ceremony until Freddie died, they did sing it in Plaça d'Espanya with a huge Barcelona logo in the background (see vid) for the 'La Nit' festival in 1988, sadly Freddie's last concert.

I was walking in that square last week oddly enough as as we walked towards the Palau Nacional from the Venetian towers, the only song I had in my head was 'Barcelona'! For your bearings as you look at the stage in the video, behind them is the Palau and behind that is the Olympic stadium.

They also had that awful Andrew Lloyd Webber song with Sarah Brightman and José Carreras "Friends for Life", which just make me sick inside my mouth.

From London 2012
Five official songs have been composed for ‘Rock The Games’ led by chart-topping band Muse, whose track 'Survival'*will be played at various sport sessions. The other four official songs are by Elton John vs Pnau, Delphic, Chemical Brothers and Dizzee Rascal

I fully expect another song to be the games theme...was there not a story about Adele and leona combining for a stupendous diva off?

I know it is a broken record, but if you want a song that has the British undertones whilst having the meaning of the games (without the cliche) you have 'Proud', perhaps they're not as keen on their recycling when it comes to bid songs, but it does the job and it still sounds current enough.

Couldn't listen to it without thinking of the Miranda sitcom....

That part of the ceremony was a British idea and creation. For me it was the best part. So your comment is a little misleading I'm afraid.

I used to be a Muse fan.. back in the day...

I still think Origin of Symmetry is one of the best albums of the last 15-20 odd years... but this... this is just.... cringeworthy.

Muse being Muse. Not bad but not their best work by a long shot. All build up and no payoff. At the very least it's better than anything heard on Eurovision by our country or any other in the past decade.

It works really well with visuals imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBu14q1dNP0

I like that it's fun and obviously isn't meant to be taken too seriously. Better than a safe ballad or pop song at least.

Like so many of the London 2012 icons (logo, Orbit, ticketing process), it seems that you either love it or hate it.

It's definitely grown on me over the past few days; I found it stuck in my head cycling home last night. And I agree with funkadelic - that BBC mix really works with it.
