Zambo Norte aims to become tourism capital

Zamboanga Del Norte will soon edge out Zamboanga City to become the tourism capital of Zamboanga Peninsula.

During a meeting last week with Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Angelo Sunglao, Mrs. Rose Sunglao and Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo, Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Rolando Yebes revealed several developments that will make Zamboanga del Norte a tourism center.

Yebes disclosed that there are three new hotels under construction in the province -- two in Dipolog City and one in Dapitan City which is a four-star hotel.

He said Dipolog City will soon have four flights daily from Manila and other flights that connect other cities in the country. The daily flights from Manila to Dipolog City are from Philippine Airlines (two) and Cebu Pacific (two).

Dipolog City is just three hours by boat to Dumaguete City and four hours to Cebu City. Ferries make trips to the two Visayas cities on 24 hours basis.

The province will have integrated bus terminal, a golf course and casino that will be constructed early next year.

Dipolog City's famous product is the Montano sardines, and the province is the major supplier of sweet mangoes to Cebu City where they are processed to dried mangoes. Durian and mangosteen jams are also produced in Zamboanga del Norte.

Yebes expressed optimism that the province will also become the shopping capital in the region because Shoe Mart and Robinson are now scouting for ideal sites in Dipolog where they plan to construct malls. The two companies consider Dipolog City an ideal city because of its proximity to Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Oroquieta City, Ozamiz City and Pagadian City. Dapitan City has also the famous Dakak Beach Resort. The province presently have three shopping malls -- Gaisano, Le Plaza and Glorieta De Dapitan.

Chief Supt. Sunglao and Sr. Supt. Gonzalodo assured Gov. Yebes that the police will work hard to maintain the stable peace and order situation in the province to pave the way for its full development.

Sunglao said the province can not attain development without the law enforcers.

"The police and provincial leaders should walk side by side and work hand in hand to face the horizon to progress and development," Sunglao said. -- Allen Abastillas

I think this is another form of erroneous and poor news reporting or proofreading if you may. Its either the editor or the writer whose at fault here but there is more reason to clamp on the editor because this is exactly the job that he does. When I was in high school I was taught how to do the news report properly beginning with 5 W's and 1 H's. I even do the proofread and write some articles to our campus paper.

From my point of view, whoever wrote it has never done or was never trained how journalism worked.

Good news indeed if accurately true. But it needs to go to three first before jumping to four. Currently, Dipolog has two daily flights to Manila. Surely, if both airline want to expand I dont think they will add frequency simultaneously. How can three be so difficult to quantify?

I think what the report meant was that soon there will be 4 daily flights out of Dipolog Airport. Two going to Manila and two going to Cebu from two different airlines. Currently, PAL and CEB flies to Manila daily and Cebu 3x a week. Thats the best guess I have.

If not, then having two more flights for Manila is not a bad thing. I'm sure they will have it like Tagbilaran does in due time. Dumaguete had three flights to Manila then before it have four. Just my thoughts!

Whats in store for Dipolog Airport in 2009

Dipolog Airport Expansion Project
Packages 3 and 4

170 Million Pesos for runway extension and shoreline protection.

This will basically extend the runway all the way to Camp Hamac in Sicayab. The end of the runway stops at the house where the Provincial Director of the PNP resides. Sadly, it has to go later on when the construction progresses. You can actually see it at the PC road in Sicayab. Don't forget to share your pictures too with us!

170 Million Pesos for construction of Administration Building, repair and expansion of terminal building and improvement of fire rescue station building.

The administration building will be constructed at the back of the AVSECOM building. Currently, it is house at the terminal building situated in the arrival area. Its presence there make it difficult for the oval baggage conveyor belt to be installed.

There will be no new passenger terminal this year. However, it is proposed to be constructed adjacent to the old one expanding all the way beyond the current fire station. Thats why the station needs to be relocated all the way north to prepare the land site. Meanwhile, The old terminal will be expanded and repaired to meet short term capacity.

After construction of the new one, the old terminal will be remodeled and merged to look the same and form as a single building. Provision includes design for 2 aero bridges for later installation in the future. Currently, model design is still in the drawing board and propose construction is scheduled to start as early as 2011.

Next year however Dipolog Airport will see construction of Navigational facilities, which include ILS equipment to the tune of P 170 million.

Can anybody share recent pictures of the airport other than those previously posted?

Cebu Pacific 45-minutes Policy

This is a question regarding CEB's 45-minutes policy in Dipolog Airport:

1. Is it legal/human/just/civilized to refuse any passenger to check-in if he/she misses the 45-minute check-policy (1 minute late is not acceptrable). (Scenario: a) not on peak season or only too few passengers, b) plane has not yet arrived at airport, c) no waitlisted passengers)

2. Minutes later, CEB decided to check-in those late passengers. Thanks to the kindness of CEB personnels, passengers with discounted tickets will not miss their flight.. Question: Is it legal/human/just/civilized to ask those late passengers with additional charges because their discounted tickets are no longer valid and they have to pay the regular fare.

------------------------------------
This is what is being written in the ticket....

Fare Rules:

1. Guests who failed to show up on their scheduled departure date or Guests who cancelled their booking one (1) day before their scheduled departure date will be charged the No-show / NUF fee. For complete summary of applicable fees, taxes, and surcharges log-on to http://cebupacificair.com/products/gofarerules.html.

2. Go fares are refundable and rebookable subject to applicable fees and fare differences.

3. Go through fare must be used in sequence, as booked. Flight changes such as rerouting, rebooking is not permitted once any of the segments has been used. Partially used through sector is non-refundable.

4. Promo fares are non-refundable but are rebookable subject to applicable fees and fare differences.

5. Carriage of passenger and baggage is subject to terms and conditions approved by the Civil Aeronautics Board. For complete terms&conditions, log on to http://cebupacificair.com/terms&conditions.html .

Reminders:

1. Guests should present a valid photo ID to airport security and upon check-in. Valid IDs for this purpose are Company ID, Drivers License, Passport, School ID, SSS Card, TIN Card. The name in the photo-ID should match the guest name that was entered upon booking. Failure to present a valid photo ID will result in your being refused check-in.

2. Check-in Counters open two (2) hours before estimated time of departure (ETD). A confirmed reservation shall be cancelled and released to waitlisted passengers if the guest failed to check-in at least forty-five (45) minutes before ETD. Corresponding fees apply for refund or rebooking.

3. All Cebu Pacific domestic and international flights will operate at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 along Andrews Ave., Pasay City starting August 1, 2008.

4. Guests traveling to the Philippines from International Sectors must have a copy or printout of the Itinerary Receipt as proof of onward reservation as required by Philippine Immigration Laws.

5. For Web/Online &Call Center transactions, all guests (other than those exempted from paying travel tax) departing from the Philippines to international sectors shall pay the Philippine Travel Tax amounting to Php1620 at the respective airport in the Philippines prior to departure.

6. Free baggage allowance for bookings on September 2, 2008 onwards is 10kg for flights to/ from Caticlan (Boracay) and 15kg for other flights.

You just answered your own questions dude. And its just not for Dipolog Airport, its valid for all airports in the Philippines.

They are also particularly strict on the GO Lite fares because its a promotional fare so you must adhere strictly to its terms. The reason for that policy is that there are others who might want to board it and pay more than what you are paying to them so they are more than ready to delist you for slight breach and charge you afterwards for the rebooking. Even PAL does that on its free flight.

If its a regular fare you have, they are more lenient about it. I've done that couple of times and I still get through.

This airport has no carousel (on the positive side, this gives jobs to porters that will get your luggage for you). Also, there is no x-ray machine installed before the check-in area so airport personnel will manually open your bag to check your things... All the rest is fine. This airport will still function without those things.

it wont materialize..buses plying to Dipolog are the close competitors..

Imagine im a passenger, there are two option to access Dipolog from Zamboanga

Option 1: by land, with 6 hours of travel..Fare: around 350
Option 2: by air, with less than 30 minutes of travel. Fare: not less than a thousand..

which do you think will i ride?
