Random walks in Detroit suburbia

For the past week the weather has been beautiful so I have decided to take some pictures of the fall foliage. I am not a photographer so do not expect anything other than plain, street level photographs. The locations will be mostly in Oakland county (where I live) and midtown Detroit (where I work). Oakland county is a middle class area that covers about one third of metropolitan Detroit.
Your comments are more than welcomed.

It is nice to see another side of Detroit - from the decay that we are used to seeing of late.

Do the people who live in these residential districts ever go into the city centre?

That's pretty high density for suburban Detroit. Thanks for sharing.

Well, the largest ethnic group in Michigan are the Germans, not the Americans (citizens for at least 3 generations), maybe this has something to do with it.

Michigan actually has a large ethnic Dutch population as well although they are concentrated around the Grand Rapids area on the opposite side of the state.

Thanks for these interesting pictures, it really looks surprisingly nice, clean and peaceful. Definitely not what one usually would expect when thinking of Detroit.

Good question They do actually, IIRC over half a milion people commute every day to Wayne County (Wayne includes Detroit city proper), out of which half work within Detroit city limits. Besides, Detroit downtown still has many attractions (sports, orchestra, theatres, dining etc).

The density in Oakland county is quite low, even by American standards.
It is just that the first batch of pictures are from a main commercial area and can be somewhat misleading.

Later on I will post photos taken on regular residential streets - perhaps that will show you a more representative picture.

That is Birmingham.
Royal Oak is good for pictures too, but it's farther away from my place.

Thanks for this thread. It's always interesting to see suburbs of the overseas (to me) big cities and people's life there, some calm nooks and corners. Such shots are showing the real life. They look very cosy
