Time for a revamp ?

Not sure if the display or the look of the of the site as ever been changed, but feel it's really dull and bland visually. Even a change of background colour would be welcome.

Out of the forums I regularly visit, the look and usability of SkyscraperCity is my favourite.

What other forums ? you never seem to be off this one. Can't complain about usability, just think the overhaul feel is little bit dull. I mean you wouldn't keep the same colour scheme and decor in your house year after year.

Well, as a matter of fact this forum does have mild makeovers from time to time, new features get added etc. As long as I've been here the colours have been blue and white though. But quite a few new features have been added in that time - whether they're actually of any use is a matter of debate.

Don't sit on the fence Butterfield, call it has you see it.

Plus, how have you managed to post over 16,000 comments ? I know you are not alone in this dedication to the public soapbox that is SkyscraperCity, but 16,000 !

It's just the default skin and setup of vBulletin 3.8 (with a customised header, to be fair)

I remember back when we had vBulletin 2.x.x the UK section was a different colour to the rest of the site!

Well, I have to ask - how have you managed over 2,000 posts? You only seem to have appeared in the last few months - usually to criticize something.

Yes, you do see other forums which use vBulletin and some of the features look the same - like buttons, tabs etc - but they always seem so much more basic and old fashioned than SSC overall.

Don't fix it if it's not broke.

When I joined in 2004 (before the forum was upgraded), some of the different national sections had their own unique colour scheme. The British section was red, and always had the union flag at the head of the page. That was before we had daily banners though.

+1

I can remember the months of slowness, downtime, server upgrades and even hacks when everything got deleted. Working as it is now is perfect.

I joined in April 2008 as well you know Butters, 2600 posts in 3 half years is relatively steady, 16,0000 posts borders on the obsessive.

But out of the two of you I'm sure I know who most people would choose to never post again though.

No revamp neccessary imo.

yeah, it's not really possible to do now sadly. the UK one was the colours of st george (we didn't have a welsh, scottish or irish sub forum back then), the aussie one was green (their national colour) etc.

The forum is uncluttered. Thats the most important thing IMO. There is nothing worse that sites packed with distractions.

I noticed some now have a 'like' button after each post. Not really sure of the point though. Its not exactly hard to express an opinion.

Quite a few sites revamp or refresh their look, its just adds a bit of interest to the enjoyment of the participant.

The issue with SSC is that it is one of the largest forums in the world, with a very diverse range of people discussing a very diverse range of topics. In that kind of environment, neutrality and simplicity is always a winner.
