Wink How To Eradicate Guns In Kenya

I love Nairobi as a city ..... But I always dread the carjackings and loss of innocent lives due to many fire arms falling in the wrong hands as a result of our porous borders and non effective military. My proposal to parliament is to table a bill which will serve a lesson to all the gangster wanna be's out there by severly punishing anybody found with an unlicensed fire arm.

1. If one is a first offender ....... Chop the right hand plus jail time.
2. Repeat offender ............... Chop the second hand plus jail time.
3. Third time .......................... Chop the right leg plus jail time.
4. Fourth time, which is unlikely .. Chop the left leg plus jail time.

The sentences should continue until one remains a torso. This is the only way crime will become history in Kenya !!! Your take guys.

lol.I think the above measures are violations of human rights. What we need is not curative measures, but preventative measures. The best ways of drastically preventing gun crime and crime in general are:

1.Intelligence. - Plant spies in criminal gangs.these gangs are generally known by police.Intelligence gathering remains the best possible method of preventing crime. The suppliers and buyers of these guns should be traced.Frequent raids should be done in suspected gang hideouts. The gangs an criminals should basically be kept on edge and know someone somewhere is monitoring their activities.Premptive measures such as raids in gang hideouts, spies who give information on criminals, disrupting their weapons chains i.e arresting suppliers of weapons and monitoring phone calls of suspected thugs, will all lead to a drastic reduction of crime.

2.Surveillance - There is a reason western countries have reduced violent crimes than subsaharan africa.Cameras need to be installed in every street in the CBD.A huge control center where hundreds or possibly thousands of people employed to monitor live the events taking place. This is an expensive undertaking, but it can prove the most effective.Every street in Nairobi at night should have atleast one or two patrol cars to compliment the surveillance. If the people in the control room see fishy activities or characters, they communicate with the patrol officers and they are dispatched to the scene. This will drastically reduce crime and criminal activities since criminals will be wary of being watched and identified on CCTV.

3.Harsh sentences for illegal possession of weapons.Possession of a firearm should attract nothing less than a life sentence in my opinion.Since it is safe to assume the weapon could have been used to commit murder.

4.Police hotlines that work and empowering the society to call and report any criminal activities. The government should pay up for adverts in the TV and newspapers urging residence to report any peroson they suspect of possessing or selling firearms. This should be an ongoing campaign and it should be aired or advertised every day throughout the year.fighting crime is an expensive affair, and there are no shortcuts.

But the ultimate "cure" for robberies and crimes is simply poverty reduction.Criminals will always find a way to beat the system. Therefore the best the government can do is to make sure less people have a motivation to commit crime.More jobs for youths and better pay will ultimately be the best way of fighting crime.
