I live a 5 minute walk from the People's Republik. It's so cool to see these pics from Mass Ave cause I walk by these buildings everyday.

Now, I will show you Marblehead.

Marblehead, MA, population approximately 20,000. Sixteen miles north of Boston & four miles from Salem. First settled in 1629 as a plantation of Salem. Incorporated in 1649. Marblehead does not have it's own train station, but served by MBTA bus lines that connect to T stations and to downtown Boston. Commuter rail stations are in nearby Swampscott & Salem.

The lighthouse is called Marblehead Light. Built in 1895 to replace brick & wooden tower from 1835. It has a fixed green light that is visible for 7 nautical miles.

The cemetary you will see is Old Burial Hill established in 1638. Final resting place for Puritans, Revolutionary War soldiers & some victims of the Salem Witch Trials.

I took the following pictures Mother's Day weekend:

Wow! What an idyllic looking community. Some gorgeous homes, and again, the brightly painted wood. Must be high on the desirable list for everyone in the Boston area - although, I guess it lacks the edge of communities closer to the city.

Another thought - there must be a subliminal and ghost-like vibe there - because of its connections to the Salem trials.

Funny you would say that. Marblehead has been the setting for more than one spooky tale. H.P. Lovecraft's fictional town Kingsport is based on Marblehead.

Lovecraft said the following about his 1922 visit to Marblehead:

"…the most powerful single emotional climax experienced during my nearly forty years of existence. In a flash, all the past of New England--all the past of Old England—all the past of Anglo-Saxondom and the Western World—swept over me and identified me with the stupendous totality of all things in such a way as it never did before and never did again. That was the high tide of my life."

Apparently, he had the tendency to get carried away.

To prevent colonial, seaside cuteness overload, I will take us back to the city.

Chinatown!

Orange Line T to the Chinatown Station:

These buildings are in the area between Downtown Crossing & Chinatown. By the way, Downtown Crossing is where multiple subway lines cross.
