A great selection of photos.

Chinatown seems quite extensive - compared to Liverpool's.

Such human industry & community - amidst the grime & decay.

Ipswich was settled by British colonist in 1633. Population of approx. 13,000 and 28 miles north of Boston. Served by MBTA's commuter rail on the Newburyport/Rockport line to North Station in Boston.

Clipper ships bypassed Ipswich for deeper ports in places like Salem & Boston. Ipswich remained a fishing & farming village and unable to afford replacing or modernizing their homes. Therefore, the town has many houses from the 1600s and 1700s.

Ipswich is connected to the witch trials usually associated with nearby Salem. Apparently, Salem was so overrun with witches, they had to use the Ipswich jail for overflow prisoners. Plus, Ipswich had some witches of their own.

This is the John Whipple House, circa 1642. It has been a museum since 1899.

Notice the plaque near the door. Many houses in Ipswich have this plaque giving the historic information.

I took the previous pictures of Ipswich a couple of weeks ago. The following pictures were taken a year or two ago with a telephone camera. I feel they are needed to tell a more complete story of Ipswich.

Ipswich is known for clams:

More New England loveliness. Gorgeous colours on that last skyscape.

You have buildings in the U.S just as old as most in Britain - perhaps even more in number, and they seem to be really well preserved.

Because of the industrial revolution, & of damage sustained during the 2nd world war - along with the shortage of space - a lot of England's very old buildings have been lost.

France is more intact in that way; theirs was a peasant/agrarian revolution - and you can see & feel more medieval history there.

Now I take you to Winthrop.

Winthrop is surrounded by water. It juts out into the harbor which gives it great views of downtown Boston & the airport. It is a seaside town, but not a vacation town. Just a place where people live. Especially if they wish to be near downtown Boston or the airport. It doesn't have it's own T subway station. It is served by MBTA bus lines that connect to nearby Blue Line stations in Revere Beach & East Boston.

Winthrop's town center is nothing fancy. Simply a place for locals. They do have a couple of good restaurants that I like to visit.
