The *Official* Dallas - Ft Worth Gallery - Page 4

It would be really cool to see Dallas incorporate more cold hardy palm trees into projects around the city, similar to the way Corpus Christi and other south Texas cities do. Imagine when the trees mature, boulevards in Dallas lined with stately palms reaching for the sky. A winter snow would contradict what it means for a city to sustain palms and it would be picturesque. The potential is great, it surely can be done because in neighborhoods like University Park and Lakewood, the Spanish and mediterranean homes have already tall and thriving palms. It would make the city so much more interesting! ^-^

Dallas has palm trees but anyone there will probably tell you that they thrive better in warmer microclimates close to Downtown and Uptown than in outlying areas where the cold winters can kill them.

.... Dallas isn't anywhere near any oceans and we're not in the desert. Though we have them, North Texas isn't the best climate to see palm trees EVERYWHERE.

Most of the palm trees you see in places like Phoenix, Las Vegas, Orlando, Los Angeles, and San Diego are also not native to those areas as well, and they require alot of maintenance to keep those trees looking healthy in those areas. Anyways there are a few species of palm trees which are perfectly suited for DFW's climate such as the California Fan Palm, the Sabal Palm, and the Texas Sabal Palm which can survive at temperatures up to 10 °F.

In Dallas I love to look at the buildings on either side as you drive down Woodall Rodgers freeway, but yesterday I was was trying to look at the new museum tower only to get a quick glimpse before a huge ass tunnel obscurred everything. I was like wtf such a disappointment. LOL
