The Bank of America Nighttime Thread

I haven't seen this thread yet. BofA is one of the best lit skyscrapers in the world.

Few questions: How many different configurations does it have?

Does the building change color hourly?

Anywho..post pics plz.

it doesnt change hourly, but it can be changed daily. the lights are on theroofs of neighboring buildings and on the terraces as the tower sets back. they use massive gel lenses that give the color and any combination is possible depending on the layout of the lights.

Heres some more with different lighting schemes. The red white and blue one is from Veteran's day a few years back.

no it does not change color hourly lol Ussually but not always it seems to be a different color every night. For example oround chistmas they will have it either red and green or blue with giant white snow flacks on it.Halloween they have it orange fourth of july red white and blue and so on.they also choose random colors dailey. The way it works is they have different colors of giant tints that they slide over the sides of the buildings lights that piont upward.........................................................................The building is a speacial color and material that reflects the light and make it apear all litt up............................................................................................................................................................Its really very smart and unussual.A typical Miamian like me born and raised never notices it and takes it for granted. When I was little i remember i used to be fasinated with it. Hey thanx for apeciating this really original building. One of these develepers needs to build somthing with a simalar concept with an even grander scale. Aaahhh that would be nice.

Yeah, it's a great building IM Pei rocks. Archi had it exactly right, many of the uplights are on the roofs of the neighboring building and they point up at the structure. The default color is white, but with gel lenses over the lamps, the color is changed. This is very apparant from the Metro Mover as you are at a slightly higher level than the lamps on the west side of the building.
It's never random though, and that adds more beauty to it. While driving by on a day that wasn't March 17th the building was green and it looked amazing, but I couldn't figure out why it was green....green and orange is typicall of a Miami Dolphin's game. A couple of days later, I was told that the Ocean Drive party that was held in the Bank of America (Centrust) building that day was sponsered by Heineken.

Downtown tower celebrates Jamaica's independence

BY ROBIN M. PEGUERO
rpeguero@MiamiHerald.com

In commemoration of Jamaica's 44th Independence anniversary celebrations, the Bank of America Tower at International Place in downtown Miami will illuminate in the colors of the Jamaican flag - black, gold and green - tonight at dusk.

While this is not unusual for the 47-floor, Miami landmark to be lit for special events in Miami, it is exceptional that the lighting will remain throughout the weekend into Tuesday morning.

The commemoration is a tribute to the economic and social impact of South Florida's large Jamaican-American community.

In my opinion one of the best lit scrapers in the world. Maybe second only to The Centre in Hong Kong. My favorite is the Christmas decoration with the snow flakes. Ive also seen stars attached to the building for 4th of July and other holidays. My all time favorite, as i remember it when I was a kid, was ont time they projected the image of Mona Lisa on the buildings facade. It was superbe. Too bad there are no available pics of this event. Love BOA Tower!!! Here is my contribution to the thread

WOW You guys are killing me. You are so lucky to have that going on every night. Again as an observer from outside, in NYC, another reason that Miami is so special is because that palette that is employed for lighting everything is a spectral palette. Red orange yellow green blue indigo violet. Think of BOA and the violet and the pink causeways, it's absolutely beautiful. Most other American cities use a "patriotic" palette or a primary palette. Because one of Miami's greatest assets is the light, the crystal colorful tropical light, it is such a perfect support to that truth to use spectral colors when lighhting buildings. I can't wait to see ho all of the new buildings will be lit. When i think of my dreamhouse in Miami, it is more important what I'm looking out at, than the building or unit I am in, I can't wait.

OK that picture with the christmas tree is amazing. I love it. Man that is sweet. I remember when I lived there in the 80's they used to have laser shows on it. Do they still do that?

Damn...LA has a building that has a similar shape ass BOA. That would be the 777 Tower. It's usually lit white but for Xmas, it's red, white, and green.

I found a pic of the 777 Tower. I had no idea this building existed but Threehundred is right, it does resemble the BOA Tower a lot.
