Question for Istanbul folks!

What is the closest subway/metro stop to Yeditepe University?

That would be the Kücükyali or Maltepe station of M4. (the only subway line on the Asian side so far) From there you should be able to find some bus to the campus. It's around 4 km from both stations.

It seems yes...

Quote:
Istanbul opens line M3

14 September 2012

TURKEY: A new metro line serving the northwest of the Istanbul metropolitan area was opened without ceremony on September 10, just a few weeks after the inauguration of Line M4 between Kadiköy and Kartal on the Asian side of the city.

The Y-shaped Line M3 runs entirely underground for a total of 15·9 km, serving 11 stations. The line starts from Kirazli, close to the Bagcilar terminus of tram line T1, and runs northwest for 11·1 km toMetrokent, with a western branch of 4·4 km from Ikitelli to Olympiyat Parki. Under construction since May 2006, the line is worked by a fleet of 20 four-car Metropolis trainsets supplied by Alstom.

Line M3 will provide better access to the city centre from the growing suburbs around Başakşehir, which now house more than 200 000 people. The western branch serves the isolated sports complex opened in 2004-05 as part of Istanbul’s failed bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, which is currently in line to host the Euro 2016 football championship.

At present M3 is isolated from the rest of the city’s rail network, pending completion of the extension of light metro branch M1B from Esenler to Kirazli via Bagcilar. In the longer term, M3 will be extended south from Kirazli to Incirli and Bakirköy, providing interchange with Marmaray services using the TCDD suburban line to Halkali.

http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/u...s-line-m3.html
Please notice that Turkey is intended to host Euro 2020, not 2016.

Those photos don't prove anything.

Also, the mistake in the Railway Gazette article regarding Euro 2020 sheds significant doubt on the rest of the claims.

Why wasn't there anything in the local media?

Conclusion: M3 never opened; it's just a Zionist conspiracy.

No, I did not find any mistake. I'm quite impressed, with the map and with the progress that Istanbul has made. I'm even beginning to support Istanbul's bid to host the Olympics. First time I heard of it I shook my head, because for such an event a city needs a world-class public transport system, but now... we are getting there.

One question: do we know when the prolongations of M1 and M2 to Yenikapi will be finished? That will bring a huge leap forward in terms of inter-connectivity.

Official opening dates as of spring 2013:

u/c, to open end of 2013:
M2 extension: Sishane-Yenikapi

u/c, to open 2014:
M1 extension: Aksaray-Yenikapi

u/c, to open 2015:
M4 extension: Kartal-Kaynarca
M5: Üsküdar-Sancaktepe
MMini: Levent-Rumeli Hisar Üstü

A tender was recently announced for the suburban section of M6 (Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey).

Marmaray (new tunnel section): Oct. 29 2013
Marmaray (modernized suburban lines): June 2015

According to my information, Istanbul has no chance of staging the Olympics, as the police has shown its lack of peaceful crowd control techniques and both police, politics, and the courts instead displayed a miserable human rights record.

@toma bacic: each of the four lines has its distinct rolling stock. M1 has 1980s style ABB trains, which are technically more like a tram with overhead catenary wires (it is therefore also designated a light metro). M2 has new Rotem trains, which are operated in 4-wagon sets (that can be, but rarely are, interconnected to form 8-wagon trains). M4 is also a "full" metro with 2x4 interconnected sets from CAF. M3 (Alstom) is also large, i.e. "full" metro by capacity, but uses overhead catenary wires.
