Great. This is going to be a job creator in the healthcare sector. There was a speech by the MD that this project is going to bring back highly qualified healthcare professionals from all over the world back to Kerala.

Perhaps this project along with lots of other projects is going to make Kochi a healthcare destination just like what IT has done to Bangalore. When will this project get completed?

Kochi has started thinking beyond IT now.

I disagree. The ITVty crowd has just started thinking about Kochi beyond IT, that's all.

This had always been a forerunner business city. IT is just a part of it.

Yes ,but there are various options in healthcare for Kochi to grow even if IT and port related activities do not grow as expected.Smart city is not taking off and Vallarpadam is struggling because of Cabotage problem.

Kochi can also be a healthcare destination(Aster Medicity, Renai Medicity etc). This is also one of the areas like IT where there is no trade unionism. As of now there are no hitches in this sector.Cant tell about tommorow

I think you din't get what he meant. Whatever, Kochi is gearing up as the next Health tourism destination.

BTW, Renai Medicity is just another hospital. We have much bigger facilities @ Amrita, Lakeshore, Medical Trust etc.

Yes that is what I meant. Kochi should be the next Health tourism destination.
I thought Renai Medicity is a huge setup.

Just name Medcity won't make into a city or mega project... Its just a hospital with 500 beds with super-specialty options.... Its indeed premium corporate hospital, but definitely not a mega project.....

What makes Aster city different from projects like Renai etc, are the Center of Excellence tag with multiple centers, each focused on a particular area... Even though such tagging is not seen in Amrita or Lake-shore, they too work towards it... Say Amrita's Cardiac center is one of most celebrated COE in South India or Lakeshore's Cancer Care center etc..... Even Medical Trust has 2 or 3 COEs, like Heart, Neuro etc

Some hospitals, have one COE, say Angmaly's Little Flower of Eye or Lisie Hospital's Neuro services or PVS's ENT/Liver etc....

Aster is a combination of nearly 10 to 12 COEs.... So naturally the scale is totally different....

Aster Medicity is anyways going to be a milestone in healthcare sector and an employment provider since it is going to create 30 to 40000 direct and indirect jobs.

Not only regarding the COE , there are full facilities for a township. Also there will be medical professionals who earn very high income probably on par with IT professionals in Bangalore. So this is going to change the face of already booming Kochi once again. Edapally-Cheranellor belt will be the healthcare destination of Kerala just like Kakkanad is a hot IT destination

Regarding Renai it was my ignorance. Kindly bear with me.

Due to the above reasons I suggest we can give this project its due importance just like we give it to Smart City or Infopark

I don't believe that.... Coimbatore has few corporate hospitals, run corporate entities, whereas this scenairo is not so easy in Kerala, where Missionaries run Mega hospitals, each competiting bringing latest technology while providing lower costs... Many are not corporatized, hence we may not feel the glitz and glamour associated with it...

Say how many of us known Lourde Hospital introduced, India's first biplane digital flat panel cathetherisation laboratory, which was also for the first time in South Asia and 2nd after Singapore in entire South-ASEAN countries.... We must, in 2007, when it was introduced, even entire US had 7 such labs and Europe having just 4... From outside, it looks like any cheap ordinary hospital.....

There are many credits similarly........ Naturally our state never been considered key for corporate brands, as they will find too difficult to compete with Missionaries hospitals....

And Kochi tops in Kerala. After Aster Medcity comes up Iam sure Kochi will be the prime healthcare destination in South India. This project is going to give health tourism and healthcare a new meaning. As per what I read and heard in the site it will not be a mere hospital but an employment provider not only for qualified doctors but also for many Malayali nurses who otherwise migrate abroad. Also there will be a self contained township.

Fingers crossed that the project takes off in a big way as expected.

Aster Medcity Phase I by second half of 2013
Quote:
KOCHI, JAN. 3: DM Healthcare, a leading healthcare conglomerate in West Asia and India, has firmed up plans to invest Rs 2,300 crore in Kerala over a period of three years. Of the total investments, the group has earmarked Rs 1,100 crore this year.

This includes Aster Medcity in Kochi at an investment of Rs 500 crore, DM Wayanad Medical College and WIMS Hospital at a cost of Rs 250 crore, a 200 bed super speciality hospital in Kannur at an investment of Rs 100 crore.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of the Global Healthcare Summit, Azad Moopen, Chairman, DM Healthcare, said the group aims to reach people across geographies with the objective of making quality healthcare accessible to people in the countries of its operation.

DM Healthcare is currently present in four GCC countries and India with a network of 150 establishments, offering diverse and comprehensive healthcare facilities.

Referring to Aster Medcity in Kochi, he said the first phase of the project is on track for commissioning during the second half of this year. The first phase includes a 550 bed Core Hospital with 9 Centres of Excellence (COEs) in various super-specialties like Cardiology, Ortho, Oncology etc.

The 40-acre Medcity campus will have a 500 seat medical convention centre, a 4-5 star hotel etc. A high-end residential facility of about 1.5 million square feet is also planned.

The addition of nearly 3,000 beds to the existing 750 beds in Kerala under DM Healthcare’s operations through Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences is likely to provide direct employment opportunities for at least 12,000 people, he added.

Guess this would attract people from other states too, to work as doctors and labourers.

Yes, As I always told Iam very optimistic about this project. This project will make Kochi one of the prime healthcare destinations in India and it will provide job opportunities to medical professionals outside the state.
