Munich during the 2011 Oktoberfest

Munich is quite possibly my favorite city in Europe and a destination I'm always willing to come back.

These photos were taken during the last weekend of 2011 Oktoberfest festival which is world's largest fair.

1. Fahren auf Der Autobahn (A95 from Garmisch-Partenkirchen towards Munich)

2. I didn't have the eco-sticker which means I could not enter the Umweltzone which is inside the Mitlerer ring. Hence I had to find a parking. BMW Welt seemed like a good location. There's free wi-fi and some good sights for those who love cars

3.

4. Olympiazentrum U-Bahn station

5.

6. After some minutes of riding on a metro we're in Marienplatz which is the central spot of the city. The stunning New Townhall is seen as soon as you get upstairs from the U-Bahn

7. Frauenkirche cathedral

8. View from the top of one of the towers of the Frauenkirche. The day wasn't perfect for that but the views are interesting nonetheless

Nice to see that Munich has a little skyscraper clustre of its own.

What exactly do you mean? I don't think there is a proper highrise cluster there.

Anyway, I think this is precisely what Munich needs more - skyscrapers/highrises concentrated in some dedicated area. Munich is and feels a very solid and very 'high-class' city and a well visible highrise accent would make it even more prominent.

Nice.
What I really like about Munich is the fact that the city is so clean and well managed.
Even when you're used to other clean european cities Munich is a cut above.

True. Munich is so well ordered and managed. Not just being clean but pretty much everything else too. You always know you should expect no surprises because everything is as it should be and in accordance with one incredible thing so many other cities have forgotten about - common sense. The common sense or "this is how it should be done" feeling is what I love about Munuich among many other things.

More views from the top of Frauenkirche

9. The amazing building of the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall)

10. The yellow church is the Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan. an impressive piece of 17th century Baroque designed by Italian architect Agostino Barelli. Munich seemingly has a substantial amount of Italian influence which makes the city even more vibrant and exciting

The red tiled roofs are very distinctive.

Munich is a very green city, it seems.

Yes, there is the "Englischer Garten" which is a big garden ( ca. 4 qkm) and an example from England.
Along the river Isar enough nature too, some other big parks in every direction of the city.

@Pansori: Nice pics.
