Greenland is definitely interesting. It's like a mix of North America and Europe (in terms of influence, geography and whatnot)

Are there any ferries running from Scandinavia or Canada to Greenland?

No ferries to anywhere, just cruiseships. Even between cities in Greenland, ferries are passengers only. Cars must be shipped by containers

The Greenland towns and housing are far superior to the sqalour of Nunavut.

ssiguy2: I'd guess that the Danish government spends a LOT more money, especially on housing, in Greenland than Ottawa does in Nunavut...

Satyricon84: great pix. Wish we were able to see all of them, but even with the ones that are visible, nicely done!

Unfortunately it doesn't depend on me but Picasa gives such problems often....try to check them later, if you still can't see some of them probabily they are deleted from the host site.

Try Imageshack.

Hmm.....interesting.

Even with a small population count within a very big geographical area, Greenland still manages to provide things like modern and state-of-the-art shelter, infrastructure (I assume they have fixed wired broadband internet) and other things.

It doesn't really feel like you're living in some barren land in the middle of nowhere (at least from what I'm seeing in the pictures).

By the way, are 4WD cars are necessity in Greenland? Or can I still survive with Front-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive?

Are there any official car dealerships in Greenland or do all automobiles come from outside (i.e. a nearby country like Denmark or Iceland)?

Thanks

In Nuuk 4WD helps but it's not necessary. You can see from the pics that there's a large number of cars with 2WD since all roads are paved without particular slope. In other towns instead maybe a 4WD would help in winter.
In Nuuk there are dealers, this one is official Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Fiat http://www.deresauto.gl/default.aspx they also import cars from Denmark. This one is official Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen http://www.nuuksauto.gl/Forside/tabid/36/Default.aspx . Surely there are others

I'd like to visit greenland in winter sometimes in the future, however I was wondering if I went out and about to take pictures of the beautiful landscape do I need to be careful about polar bears and wolves? Are there many of them?
