I just finished reading the entire topic... My God, this metro system really deserves my best compliments!
That's incredible, so modern and also so good looking! Porto's metro should be an example for many cities all over the world!

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Due to Photobucket f*cking up, most images won't be visibile in my old posts. If you need anything specific, please write me.

Some photos taken by me at Sra. da Hora station

(C) Francisco J.R. Mourão

The quality is not the best because I've took them with my mobile.

A view on "Senhora da Hora" station

Well..I think this yellow box is something related with signalling...If someone know what it is, please tell me

Well...this is a view to the place where Metro do Porto has one of its biggest problems...The place where lines A, B, C and E join at the same point to go onto the common track between Senhora da Hora and Estádio do Dragão. Sometimes vehicles have to stop on red signals, to allow other vehicles to pass.

I don't know if there is any topic on the forum, for the old trams of Porto...
I have here 1 photo...Today there are 3 routes with the old trams in porto, used essentially by tourists...We can say that they're mainly touristic routes.
They use also the "andante" systemm, the same used in Metro do Porto.

And the shadow of the line...

If you read carefully, you will see that it actually is underground for most of the downtown area, and then switches to above ground once it reaches further outside the central city area, where traffic isn't going to be as bad. This gives them most of the full speed of a metro, while reducing construction costs significantly by building above ground outside of the CBD. It's really a pretty solid plan, in my opinion.

In my opinion, is not needed to be underground when in the suburbs it goes on "high" speeds, without being underground. For example, London Underground has most of it's route above ground on the suburbs, because there's no necessity to have high costs and higher risks at the construction and in emergency cases.

you have "vision" for sure

its exactly what they planned before the construction. FULL speed at city center, and not underground lines in suburbs to be cheaper and possible to construct more and more... beeing a metro system that reaches at very parts of the city.

not obstant that.. the project costs 1,7billion euros.

It is important to say, that all the Metro do Porto network is 100 % accessible to wheel-chairs and disabled people. Besides that, most of the steps and the platforms have guide lines for blind people. The vehicles also have no barriers and they have the floor at the level of the stations.
Here are some pictures of one of the elevators of the network at Casa da Música station.

How about resizing those photos? It would be nice if I didn't have to scroll for half an hour to see them (and I'm on a 17'' screen with 1280X1024 resolution).
