with the kind of politicians we have today, and with the options we have for the coming elections, i wish Japan (or the US, or even Spain) would invade us again

1941 Japanese air raid on Walled City

Probably taken from City Hall's tower; San Juan de Dios Chapel is clearly visible; background is the ruined facade of Santo Domingo Church

Mas matindi ang damage ng Manila kumpara sa Warsaw Poland.

Maybe some of you have seen this video...

Click on the photo to download the 2 videos from www.ahashare.com/torrents

Atrocities perpetrated by the Japanese on innocent residents of Manila 62 years ago are finally being given recognition.

The grim and thorough documentary film by Peter Parsons and Lucky Guillermo is being released to commemorate the "Battle for Manila" which began on February 3, 1945.

More than a hundred thousand non-combatants perished during that period including the devastation of the city.

The documentary puts the blame on Japanese higher authorities, contrary to the usual story that either remnant Japanese forces were trapped in Manila by the Americans and therefore decided to fight to the last man; or, that Admiral Sanji Iwabuchi disobeyed orders from General Yamas**ta to leave Manila, stayed, and went on a rampage of killing.

The American forces are not let scot-free either: the film also shows deaths that were caused by heavy U.S. artillery.

The film is a product of research in the United States National Archives and interviews with survivors and historians by Peter Parsons and Lucky Guillermo.

B&W and in English.

My grandparents were there and barely escaped death. My angkong (lolo) had a carinderia then which he had closed and converted into rooms-for-rent. It was set on fire that night by Japanese soldiers. As expected, people will flee burning buildings, right? All who escaped by the front door died, mowed down by a machine gun set up on the street. I won't be here today were it not for a split second decision on their part to escape through a rear window instead.

It was mentioned on that video the same situations on how others suffered their fate. My parents said that some of my relatives who were not able to escape out of Manila were lucky also since they stayed inside some already burnt out buildings.
My parents were able to head down to Bicol, months before the Americans arrived in Leyte. But my father needs to go back and forth from Manila to Lucena and bring other relatives to Bicol but they were always mistaken to be Japanese and thanks to my uncle who's a Bikolano that always accompanied my father on his trips.
