that's so true. it was great, like the great european cities of the time. nakakasakit ng loob ang pagtingin ng mga pictures na to. imagine sana kung ano na ang state ng pilipinas kung hindi na-destroy ng gyera. yung architecture eh rival ng even the most historic cities ng europe and united states. nakakalungkot isipin minsan ang naging plight ng pilipinas at kanyang mga pilipino because of the gyera na iyon. oh well...

yeah... that war is verytsaddening.. and heart-breaking... lucky are we that we were born at least 2 or 3 decades after it... and hope that a 3rd war comes in....

Manila would have been like Venice or Paris or Madrid filled with romance back then....

I think the culture of corruption that followed years after did more damage to Manila than all the bombs dropped during the war. That and the lack of vision of our leaders. Uhm,...check that, our leaders WERE part of the corruption.

Manila was only second to Warsaw (Poland) in terms the destruction and devastation brought upon by WWII.

Germany and Japan are highly industrialized nations today, and their aid to developing countries are very much appreciated, especially in the Philippines. I guess their shame and guilt for the war also plays a part in their generous giving.

@powermad... I agree with you... but I guess corruption is not only in our political leaders... it is in every Filipinos lifestyle.... ayaw palamang ng Pinoy, mahilig mag"lagay" o magpa-kotong kaya may kotong cops... mahilig maglangis sa mga opisyal kaya may under-the-table transactions...

di ko alam kung napanood nyo ung isang banned McDo commercial na nag-run ng 1 week ata... the scene is isang pamilya.. mommy, daddy at batang babae... katabi ng daddy ung bata... tapos tinatanong ng mommy ung bata... "Sinong love mo?"... Bata: "Dada!"... 3 times tanong yung mommy... at sagot lagi ng bata.. "Dada!".... tapos yung camera baba ung shot under the table... yung daddy binibigyan ng fries yung bata everytime tatanunging ng mommy... sad to say but it happens... bibigyan yung bata para laging ikaw ang mahal... it tends that you always give something to get something... then the other natututong manghingi muna ng "lagay"
