They should also demolish the slums in Intramuros, and relocate the illegal settlers to other places. I was in Intramuros yesterday and I happened to walk past these British tourist family, when their daughter saw these squatters' areas in Intramuros, I overheard her saying "yuck!"

Imagine, Intramuros before served as the home of the most prominent and illustrious families in the Philippines but now it is inhabited by illegal settlers!

NOW ? the illegal settlers were there for many years, and Intramuros Administration is powerless to eject them nor enforce the law in that place.
And the government of the City of Manila will not interfere since it was outside the jurisdiction of the city government.

Intramuros became much worst when the administration of that place was given to Intramuros Administration during the Marcos era. But with the good administration and dedication of the energetic new Admnistrator of I.A. Mrs. Bambi Harper, I am sure Intramuros will see a new bright era.

Azucar Heritage Village as an example

I sincerely hope that Ms Harper does read this thread. There are some really good ideas expressed here that could resurrect this moribund place. For an area with so much history and tourism revenue potential, it is lamentably littered with "baduy" and "jologs" buildings, and worse, the Intramuros Administration, even allowed squatters to fester and breed within its confines! Historical Intramuros, just does not deserve to be treated like this.

I.A should take a leaf out of Azucar Heritage Village's book.

Surely, if one man can do this, then IA should be able to transplant some of those heritage houses that are being torn down mercilessly in the old sections of Manila (with the tacit approval of unthinking jolog mayors), into the areas that are now occupied by squatters, and spruce them up! At least you have original architecture and materials that date back to the same era. These transplanted building can be turned into business premises or even residences.

Intramuros should also try to transplant into the walled city, a few of the ancient churches that are being vandalised by tasteless parish priests in the provinces, who have no clue of the aesthetic value of these heritage structures. Might as well send these churches to some place where they are appreciated, and in place, let the parish priest build a brand new church for his parishioners.

Buhayin ang Intramuros ngayon din!

The Marcos Administration created the Intramuros Administration" in the late 70s, for DECADES since 1945 it lies in ruins, empty lots, decapitated partial walls since I.A. WAS CREATED, THE WHOLE STRECH OF THE WALLS HAD BEEN RESTORED, REBULD SOME portions, Reconnected. Fort Santiago beautifies, The entrance rebuild, the Moat reapears, the Different Puertas restored.

A new law stating that only spanish style exterior sructures will be build inside.
since 90 percent of the walled city was privately owned properties, it will took time to realise those dreams.

Squaters inhibit the walls and much areas for Decades 80 percent of the settlers was relocated in 1980, Thanks to I.A.

Atleast thats an Effort that we can see, in the 1950s Modern buildings started to towers its streets as seen some today.

Intramuros Administration is an attached agency of the Department of Tourism that was created in pursuant to the Presidential Decree 1616 signed by President Marcos on April 10, 1979, amended by PD 1748 on December 10, 1980. Its main functions are to restore Intramuros and promote it as a tourist destination.

Lets talk about the old Intramuros and how we can help in rebuilding some lost sites, all over the Philippines is modern you go to the diff Malls its al the same same over and over again.

WE had a Philippine trade exhibit center along Roxas Blvd also World trade cntr there plus Megamall megatrade hall who caters regional exhibits.

Lets Glorify the past of Intramuros, those regonal Clashell activities are always there the Local media and DOT had enough advertising it, Lets put our attention to the original Intramuros

Thats why this Thread is called Ciudad Murada, not Clamshell city hehe

When we talk of Intramuros its not the picture of Manila Cathedral and fort Santiago alone
it must be the entirity of the walled city, Most PEOPLE ONLY KNEW INTRAMUROS AS THE CATHEDRAL AND FORT SANTIAGO' OVER USED PICTURES, Not knowing the different parts

Were Bombarded with those picturesCatedral F.Santiago, Its there to stay, people must knew most part, lets help to educate and promote in reviving the lost glory.

The Clamshell with regional exhibits is right there inside Intramuros and I guess a joint project by the Intramuros Administration and the Dept of Tourism.
