Thanks a lot for sharing, I needed to see how Nantes is like and your thread didn't disappoint. Shame about those oversized pictured though, impossible to see them.

lovely city. I love this old French architectural style which is similar to most of the French cities.
I just want to ask if this architectural style has a particular name?

The old center of Nantes is largely constituted by buildings of the 17th and 18th century, golden age of the city (thanks to the triangular trade), that is why she looks like Bordeaux a lot (which who knew the golden age at the same moment), even if the center was ravaged in 1943 by American bombers ( more than 700 destroyed buildings), it remains magnificent, it is a rather unique Architecture, a mixture of French Renaissance style, in the hardness and the simplicity of its lines with a trend slightly the Italian Renaissance. We find only little style Haussmann in Nantes, concentrated on the street of Strasbourg and Place Saint Pierre.

That typical 17th/18th century architectural style doesn't have any particular name as far as I know, but you can safely say "17th and 18th century French style" because all the other styles important in France have their own name (like French Renaissance, Louis XIII style, French Classicism, Neoclassical, Hausmannian, French Neorenaissance, Art Nouveau, Art Deco etc.) so there should be no confusion.

Alternatively, when you're referring precisely to houses like this:

then you can call them old maisons bourgeoises and architecture afficionados will know exactly what you mean.

Nantes ( it concurence with Copenhage and Berlin )is the place of shooting of a commercial for new Twingo of Renault. The Spot shot on the island of Nantes and its new districts, symbol of modernity.

I recognized the Bridge Tabarly, the Bridge of Cheviré, the Beaulieu shopping mall, the Nave of the Machines of the Island, the School of Architecture there...

Furthermore, Nantes will be the place for the international presentation of Twingo, with more than 650 expected journalists, I hope of attractive for plans of the city center
