Cilindar (Macedonian: Цилиндар) is a New Wave, Ska, 2 Tone and Reggae band from Skopje, the Republic of Macedonia formed in the early 1980s.
Today its former members are respectable solo or band artists in the Macedonian music scene:
Dimitar "Mite" Dimovski - Димитар Мите Димовски (drums) is a drummer of the Macedonian cult band Arhangel.
Petar Rendžov - Петар Ренџов (guitar) became a prominent ethno-jazz and blues guitarist as well as studio musician for other popular artists.
Risto Samardžiev - Ристо Самарџиев (vocals)- after the dissolution of Cilindar in 1983 he formed the New Romantic and later pop band Haos in Laos in 1984. In 1987 he started a successful solo career as a pop singer winning an award for best performance at the Makfest festival in the same year. Later he was also a vocalist of the popular Macedonian bandMemorija. Several times he was also a candidate at the Macedonian national preselections for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The band recorded several songs and videos for the national Macedonian Radio-Television of which Samo eden del is the most popular.
After its spilt in the mid-1980s, the band members gathered again for a reunion concert at the Bob Marley tribute festival held in Skopje in 2008.

Padot na Vizantija (Macedonian: Падот на Византија, English: The Fall of the Byzantine Empire) was an influential 1980s post-punk,darkwave and gothic rock band with occasional Byzantine music elements and Orthodox Christian beliefs from Skopje, Macedonia.The group is notable for its guitar player Klime Kovaceski andvocalist Goran Trajkoski who rose to international prominence as a frontman of the group Anastasia which was featured on the soundtrack album for the Academy Award nominated movie Before the Rain directed by Milčo Mančevski. The most prominent tracks by Padot na Vizantija are Beginning and end ( Почеток и Крај), The same situation after all ( И пак истата состојба), and Riders ( Коњаници). They performed in Skopje, Kumanovo, Shtip, among others.
The song The same situation after all is included in the Macedonian Document (Македонски Документ) compilation album along with other prominent alternative Macedonian artists.
Outside of music, the lead guitar of Padot na Vizantija- Zoran Dabik has had a long career as a senior diplomat. Previously, he worked as a Director for Collective Security Systems at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, while he currently serves as the Macedonian Ambassador to the International Organizations in Vienna (United Nations, OSCE, IAEA, UNIDO, etc).

Mizar (Macedonian: Мизар) is a Macedonian rock band from Skopje. They achieved a status of a cult band, especially in Macedonia .
The group is notable for its first self-titled album, rock record in Macedonian language. The album was a major success and it is listed among the top ten rock albums ever released in Macedonia.
Mizar was formed in 1983 Republic of Macedonia . Because of the band's avant-garde sound and image, its Orthodox Christian leanings and support for Macedonian self-determination, they were viewed with certain degree. Still, the group received great media attention including numerous appearances on the national television.
Name
The band got its name after Mizar which is a guiding star for orientation of travelers in the deserts. The name was given by Panta Džambazoski.
Mizar music
Mizar's musical style is post-punk, darkwave and gothic rock. Beside influences such as Joy Division for instance, Mizar also uses elements of Traditional Macedonian folklore and Byzantine music. Another main part of their music is Goran's (both Tanevski andTrajkovski) vocals which are based on Macedonian church chants. Many of their songs are in ChurchMacedonian.
Story of the Mizar
In their long history Mizar had 3 Revelations, all of them with different singers.
The First Revelation (Risto Vrtev)
The band was formed in 1983 in Skopje, but their first self-titled album came out in 1988. The first line up of Mizar was:
Gorazd Chapovski (guitar)

Ilija Stojanovski (bass guitar)
Panta Džambazoski (drums)
The Second Revelation (Goran Tanevski)
In 1985 Vrtev left Mizar and was replaced by Goran Tanevski. Also the keyboardist Slobodan Stojanovski joined in. This change affected their musical style as well. They started to use elements of the traditional Macedonian folklore and Byzantine music blended with post-punk, darkwave and gothic rock. This phase of Mizar is known as Мизар - Второ Откровение(Mizar - The Second Revelation). Vrtev later founded Arhangel (Archangel) which was awarded as the best rock act in Macedonia during the 1990s. Arhangel inherited certain features of Mizar but with a more conventional rock approach which is why Arhangel was sometimes referred as the Rock Mizar. During 1986 and 1987 there were many changes in the line-up, which during a certain period included the prominent Macedonian musician Goran Trajkoski as a bass player. Later he was a lead vocalist of Anastasia) .
They released their first, self-titled album, in 1988 with the following line-up:

The producer was Goran Lisica-Fox. Beside their own songs, the album also included a cover version of the notable Macedonian folk song Zajdi, Zajdi under the title "Златно сонце"(Golden Sun). One of the best known songs from the album is "Девојка од Бронза" (Girl made of bronze).

Aleksandar Makedonski (Macedonian language: Александар Македонски, meaning in English: Alexander of Macedonia) was a notableMacedonian rock band.
Biography
Aleksandar Makedonski was formed in 1986 in Skopje, Macedonia as an offshoot of the prominent punk rockgroup Badmingtons, and it included the frontman Vladimir Petrovski - Karter (guitar, vocals), Dejan Škartov-Deko (keyboards), Zoran Janković - Bajo (bass guitar), Vladimir Dimovski (drums) and the female singer Melita Stefanovska (backing vocals). Unlike Badmingtons, who were a punk band, Aleksandar Makedonski was initially a more pop-rock oriented act.
The third former Badmingtons member, the drummer Boris Georgiev decided to join the gothic rock cult band Mizar and played on their first self-titled album released in 1988.
Aleksandar Makedonski recorded several songs for the national Macedonian Radio-Television music production and soon became popular across the country.
In 1990, they recorded two songs, "Mi se igra" and "Sekavanja" at Mladinski Radio Klub 100, which were released on the Demoskop tape.
The line-up soon changed. Melita Stefanovska left and joined the all-female alternative rock band Royal Albert Hall, while Dimovski joined the psychedelic rock group Kleržo together with Škartov, who later moved to Italy in 1991. Karter continued to work with a new bass player Mite Brljamov, but with a different musical style. In 1991, they recorded songs for the second album at the studio of Nikola Kokan Dimuševski of Leb i sol, however it was never released.
After a long pause, they recorded a new material throughout 1995, which was finally released as Aleksandar Makedonski's second album Moeto carstvo for the Makoton label in 1997. All three original members of Badmingtons are on Moeto carstvo along with bassist Zoran Jankovic.
The group finally disbanded, and Karter switched to studio and film work. Later he formed a new group called Opstrukcija which released an album in 1999 before disbanding. In 2007 he reformed the 1997-era Aleksandar Makedonski under the Badmingtons name without Jankovic. To celebrate that reunion, a CD single was released of two Aleksandar Makedonski tracks and one Badmingtons track under the Badmingtons name.

Bastion (Macedonian: Бастион) was an eminent electronic music group from Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, notable for its member Kiril Džajkovski (Кирил Џајковски), who later rose to international prominence as a solo musician, DJ and a composer of the soundtrack album for Milčo Mančevski's movie Dust.
The trio was formed in 1983 in Skopje,Macedonia. The line up consisted of: Ana Kostovska (vocalist), Kiril Džajkovski (keyboards) and Ljubomir Stojsavljević (bass guitar). The author of their lyrics was the internationally acclaimed film director Milčo Mančevski, at that time a correspondent of the magazines Džuboks and Zdravo from New York City. He was also a director of their music video for the song Hot day in Mexico.


The group recorded several songs in Macedonian language for the music production of the national Radio-Television Skopje.
They released their debut self-titled album in 1984.
After they disbanded, Džajkovski started to work with the prominent Macedonian rock band Leb i sol and played on their albums Kao Kakao and Putujemo. Ana Kostovska continued as a solo singer and actress.
In 2006 their first album was re-released on audio CD in Republic of Macedonia by Lithium Records, PMG Recordings and AG Records under the titleWorks and Rew>>works. The CD also included tribute cover versions recorded by several, mostly younger Macedonian bands and solo artists such as: Robotek, PMG Collective, Steel Temple and others.

Haos In Laos (Macedonian: Хаос ин Лаос) was a Macedonian New Romantic and later a Pop band from Skopje, 1984–1987. Its frontman Risto Samardžiev[1], formerly a vocalist of the band Cilindar, later started a successful solo career as a pop singer, while its drummer Borjan Jovanovski, later became a prominent journalist in the Republic of Macedonia, specialized on EU issues, a correspondent of Voice of America from Skopje and a spokesman of the former President of the Republic of Macedonia Boris Trajkovski.The guitarist of the Haos In Laos was Zlatan Milivojevic.
