Nice overhead shot showing the VSC from above. The former staging area south of the VSC on the tower 5 plot has been brought to grade and is almost cleaned up.

And it looks like St. Nicholas Church will be built directly on top of the center of the spiral ramp..

Anyone know what the huge void in the western half is for? Just temporary for lifting down large equipment, or is it an elevator shaft ending up in Liberty Park?

Not quite sure what it is but it certainly looks like it's going to be there permanently. It has poured concrete walls and extends above the surface. It also looks March larger than an elevator shaft would be. I'm wondering if it's going to be some kind of an atrium to provide light for subterranean office areas?

5 WTC is where Memorial Entry access now is ( see graph few posts below this one). There is currently nothing will be build on former 5 WTC (deutsche bank) site but there is few purposes out there ( nothing set and stone) on what to build there ( hotel or apartment building). Its probably will not be called 5 WTC at all.

Park of park is open for a public but you have to reserve a "free" pass in order to get in ( $2 reservation fee).

Next year park will be fully open for a public like other parks in NYC. That means security will come down and it will be a free entry.

Those large voids will be covered up with concrete when work is done. They used to be extended all the way to former 5WTC site but most of them got covered up already. Those are left open in order to get large equipment down underground.

I could be wrong but looking at the webcams it looks like they have started building the supports to extend liberty street bridge to the VSC!

Yes, it definately looks like they are starting with the connection.

Moreover, work on the overhanging roof facing Liberty Street has also started. Looks like the concrete part could be finished soon (not for the church and Liberty Park, but for the VSC)

I thought that the new idea was a mixed use commercial/office/residential/hotel building was being proposed for 5 WTC now.

Great find, cool! The renderings also include Koenig's sphere relatively close to the church!

Anyone knows what the small structure at the bottom of the pic below (close to the exit of the pedestrian bridge) is? They are currently setting up the formwork for it..

Very cool pics! Is the 5WTC rendering in those pics only a placeholder or might that already be a new design?

What I'm very interested in is that other glass building next to 5WTC - that did not appear on any site plan before! However, if I'm not wrong, that site is currently occupied by a historic looking brown/orange brick building (can be seen in the pics by oli83 in the beginning of this page), I hope they don't have any real plans to tear that one down

Orthodox Church. There was already one next to the old World Trade site before 9/11.

Yes, I know. But I mean, is it really necessary to rebuild it?

This is pure speculation on my part, but I would guess it is an elevator shaft for accessibility to the bridge and park.
