I'm well aware of what this thread is about. In fact, that's what I pointed out when I said that this is a thread about NYC.

What I am asking is this:

What is P.C. Hoofstraat?

NONE of what you mention appears to have anything to do with a "P.C. Hoofstraat". So I am asking what that is.

I know Google Maps. But I have no way of knowing that that is the program I should use, as compared to Bing Translate (which just gave me garbage).

??? I do not know if you're referring to my English, I speak better dutch, germany, italian and spanish, In Europ we don't speak so much inglish, any way the church is the only element that gives meaning to the park, but I think in the future will build a building in that space, because the space in NY is expensive and limited

I was talking to Black Dahlia and turtlebay about not clarifying where it was.

I wasn't commenting on your English.

I don't think there will be a building built there in the future. It is a small, awkward, space located atop a garage entrance, and the park is perceived as part of the memorial complex, which gives it symbolism.

Some great insight into the architecture of St. Nicholas Church from:
https://www.stnicholaswtc.org/architecture

Quote:
The design of the new St. Nicholas National Shrine was inspired by the architectural elements of the Cathedral Church of Hagia Sophia built by the Emperor Justinian and the Church of Our Savior in Chora. You can see specific inspirational elements of the two Churches that were key to the architecture of the St. Nicholas National Shrine at the World Trade Center. To see all of Architect Santiago Calatrava's conceptual sketches and renderings, please use your mouse to scroll to the right.
The dome inside St. Nicholas Church:

I'll say it again: it serves as the east-west corridor of the WTC and WFC, and by extension FiDi and BPC.

I think it's interesting how Calatrava manages to design futuristic buildings while being inspired from the Byzantine arts and the architecture of the once famous Constantinople. I've read somewhere that the Byzantine mandorla could've been one of the possible inspirations for the Oculus, or something like that. (I've read that in the article from deezen when the Oculus was photographed by the British photography duo Hufton + Crow).

So, what's the latest status of the church? After a good spurt of progress pouring the concrete structure it seems that there has been zero progress whatsoever for the last 2 months. Can someone shed some light on this? are there financial issues? Material delivery issues?

They have been waiting for the fabrication of the dome, which is made of steel.

the 2 little domes are on, and they are installing the ring sections to support the big one.
