Something like that might work though considering how slow the train system is compared to the freeways in Melbourne, it'd end up taking forever to get to the city anyway even if they tried to run it express.Just think about how many trains take 10 minutes to get from North Melbourne to SCS because they sit for so long at red signals, and it's not much better than the bus getting stuck on Dynon Rd coming off Citylink.

Are you sure it takes that long to get out. I actually sit up the back and from memory more than 2-3 minutes to get out.

I sat up the very back last time I went and it took 5 minutes tops to get out, and that was with a bus load of backpackers who had trouble getting their bags out.Personally, I quite liked the Skybus, except for the fact that it took ages getting into Melbourne due to roadworks on the freeway it takes. It was especially convenient for me because I stayed at the Batman Hill Hotel, directly across the road from Southern Cross Station! That said, I think a train service a la Airtrain would be a better solution as it would give more capacity than the buses do, and the bus was pretty well jam packed! |

SkyBus can handle the capacity required with frequency upgrades and absolute priority for quite a few years to come.
Melbourne needs to get other areas of rail sorted, and come back to the Airport railway in maybe 10-15 years time. Even at the moment you'd be hard pressed to half fill a 3 car train every 30 minutes for most of the day and don't think a train will magically double the mode share (8.3% in 2008, probably at around 10-12% now - on par/only slightly below rail). |

i was really drunk at a party down the gold coast, about 3 in the morning, jumped in a cab and sorta slurred my address in brisbane... cost about 180 bucks when i looked at the statement. i had a hotel room already paid for, like 10 minutes from the party so i had to catch the train back to the gold coast the next day to get my shit from the hotel room before checkout :S. blah.

Dudes i'll have a lot of drunken stories to tell when i get back from my romp in Manila. Looks like i'll be paying the $100 cab fare after all since the deal with my ride fell through...

Doing a Danubis and reviving a year old thread started by a great SSC servant. Now to take the skybus or catch the taxi this coming december? Had a shit brownlow this year but as the old man says to me, "if you can afford a $1200 ticket, then you can afford the taxi fare".

Are you in QLD? If so you can avail yourself of a hover-taxi to the airport. They'll all the rage and should be coming out in Melbourne and Sydney in about 50 years.

It's probably cheaper than the skytrain.

Well I've been pushing for catapult systems myself. Provided you have enough pillows and expert calibration it's perfectly safe and much faster. I figure Brisbane airport to the CBD or near vicinity is do-able in around 20 seconds flight time.
You see the trick is you attach the pillows to the person, so they sorta land like the earlier Mars Rovers. Hilly terrain should be avoided for obvious reasons.
