Would you also count Oakleigh as being fairly Greek, and Footscray either Vietnamese or emerging East African?

Those suburbs have nothing on Hurstville for proportion of Chinese (and Hong Kong) born residents according to 2006 Census:
Chinatown (Haymarket): 19.0% Chatswood: 18.5% Eastwood: 20.0% Epping: 14.0% Hurstville: 33.2% |

Without the Chinese, Forest Road would be a dead main street. They have done a great job renewing the CBD. The newsagent in Westfield Hurstville has virtually no room for newspapers on Saturdays. Huge piles of Chinese newspapers are on sale alongside the regular dailies.
Hurstville Library also has a large collection of Chinese literature.

For Perth,
I guess you could say Mirrabooka and surrounding suburbs hold most of the African, Vietnamese, Greek, Macedonian and Bosnian population in Perth, although the area isn't really dominated by one ethnic group. Since the 60's Stirling and Freo have had a noticeable Italian presence. Winthrop and Murdoch have high Asian populations from a diversity of countries, such as Singapore, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Korea. The shops and restaurants in Winthrop are predominately Asian. Joondalup and Rockingham have huge English-born populations (Rockingham 15% and Joondalup 19%), although British-born and Anglo communities are obviously distributed all over the city. There's an established Jewish community in Dianella. Perth doesn't have the ethnic enclaves of Melbourne or Sydney but still is quite a diverse place. This is just from my knowledge and living in the city. Any suburbs/ethnic groups anybody thinks I left out? |

Perth does not have suburbs dedicated to one race but does have ethnic enclaves within the suburbs:
Here are some suburbs I am aware of that have 'well-known' ethnic enclaves: Chinese (mainly chinese malaysian, chinese indonesian and singaporean): winthrop, murdoch, booragoon, leeming, bentley Vietnamese: Mirrabooka, Girrawheen Italian: Fremantle, Beaconsfield, Hami Hill (there are Italians all over Perth but not sure if they are as concentrated as these suburbs) Please not however some of these 'Italians' have been here for 2 or 3 generations. Serbs and Croats: Spearwood, Hami Hill Spearwood even has slav street names, and hires out slav movies at the video ezy Sudanese: Mirrabook, Koondoola, Nollamorra and surrounds (I think it is Nollamarra where the primary school has signs in english and arabic) Sth africans: Canning Vale, Willeton south africans are all over Perth, not sure where else they live en masse Middle Eastern (mainly lebanese and Afghan): Eastern suburbs Bentley, Cannington, Est Cannington, Queens Park Jewish: Dianella English: Joondalup and the northern suburbs in general Maoris and Islanders: I know there are a lot in the City of Cockburn Filipinos: A lot in the City of Cockburn because they have been brough over with working visas (457 i think) to work in the shipyards in Henderson. Does anyone know how these visas work? Will they be permanent residents or sent back after the work visa is over?

The Gold Coast doesn't have many ethnic 'enclaves' as such. The only obvious choices are Surfers Paradise and Southport for their Japanese, Korean and Chinese influences. That said though, the suburbs here are quite multicultural, but the people obviously don't feel they need to congregate with their own.

We are very lucky to be living in Australia. A multicultural society that seems to be working.
Ethnic enclaves. Places you visit to experience what different cultures have to offer > Ethnic ghettos. No go zones you avoid.

![]() I didn't do any research but was based on some info my Jewish friends gave me. Though they live in Sydney they all own property and apartments in GC and spend half the year there. Aparently this is common.

As for Surfers being more multicultural than Brisbane, I don't think that's true, but it might appear like that because where there's a lot of multiculturalism apparent along the Surfers strip, where Brisbane's multiculturalism is much more spread out through the suburbs. There's the large, well established Asian population around Sunnybank, the multicultural melting pot that is the Woodridge/Kingston area with large population groups of Aborigines, Maoris/Pacific Islanders, Africans and middle eastern Muslims, There's Inala which I believe also has large populations of Africans and middle eastern Muslims and around Mt Gravatt is another melting pot due to all the international students attending Griffith who are living in the area. I don't know what the north side is like, but the southside to me feels every bit as multicultural as the GC. In the inner city, you still see a lot of Asians in the CBD and around the Chinatown precinct, and there are a lot of Aborigines also around the Valley and New Farm area, but you don't see as many of the Maoris/Islanders, Africans and Muslims in the inner city. |
