hkskyline's 2010 EDFU, EGYPT Photo Collection

The overnight cruise stopped in Edfu by morning. The Temple of Horus is quite a distance from the docking point though. Horse carriages carrying upwards of 4-5 people made that journey, but the horses didn't seem to be in the best condition though.

The temple was buried under the village when archaeologists arrived in the 19th century. Signs of human intervention are clearly visible on the ceiling, where residents probably sought shelter here and started fires that left black marks.

Carvings are seen on walls everywhere inside and outside.

Thanks! Here are some more :

There were plenty of other tourists that went to shore that morning, and the temple's interiors were dark and full of people. Their main focus was statue of the barque, used for religious processions.

Heading back outside, I was hoping the crowds would thin as everyone pushed to get inside. There are more carvings and columns to examine.
