Indonesia ready for Islamic Games
Saudi Gazette, Thursday, 16 February 2012 - 23 Rabi Al-Awaal 1433 H JEDDAH – Indonesia is gearing up for the third Islamic Solidarity Games well in advance, according to a high-level official of the organizing committee. HM Rusli Zainal, Governor of Riau Province which is hosting the event, who was here to meet Prince Nawaf Bin Faisal, Chairman of Board of Directors of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and GPYW, told Saudi Gazette that 53 venues are already ready for conducting various disciplines in the province. Zainal, who received the official flag of the third Islamic Solidarity Sports Games from Prince Nawaf, said that ISSF Chairman has promised to provide all the support the province needed to make the Games a success. “Two months ago, nine officials from ISSF visited the province including Dr. Mohammad Saleh Gazdar, Secretary General of ISSF, to witness the preparation,” he said. The delegation found that all infrastructure is ready to host the outstanding event, he added. “It is our pleasure to host the Games. On this occasion, I would like to thank Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries for giving us this historic chance,” Zainal added. The organizing committee selected Riau province to host the Games due to its strategic geographic location. The Province is close to Singapore, just 40 minutes by plane. “We have set up a 300-member organizing committee to host this event and to make things smooth during the games,” he said. Incidentally Riau Province will host the National Games of Indonesia in 2012 where competitions will be held in 39 events. A special Islamic cultural festival of arts will also be held on the sidelines of the games. Mohammad Johar Firdouss, Chairman of Peoples Representative of Riau Province, said that 200 guides from Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, will help the organizers in Indonesia.

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 05/11/2012 12:34 PM Indonesian tae kwon do competitors are hoping to grab four gold medals during the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), which will be held in Riau Province in June 2013. Indonesia plans to field a team of 16, consisting of eight male and eight female athletes, to compete in the Games, in which athletes from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OKI) will be participating. “We have chances [to win golds] in kyorugi [fighting] and poomsae [form] events”, said an official from the Indonesian Tae Kwon Do Association, Budi Setiawan, on Friday. Budi said that challengers from Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Morocco were among the tough contenders. ...readmore --- guess what. Islamic Solidarity Games is not male-only event

It's NOT really off-topic. This thread is highlighting the 3rd edition of the Islamic Games which was set up to counter the Pan Arab games (which allow women to participate but NOT Arab countries). But it (these ISSF Games) is a tournament based on a "faith." I am just trying to understand if these counter-Islamic Games have hopefully progressed beyond just a Games based on religous beliefs. I don't think there are Christian or Protestant or Buddhist Games, are there?
This is a discussion forum. What is wrong with questioning? I am not muslim--so I can question this if I want to. I just want to know if "female athletes will be allowed to compete in these set of Games, because they were NOT allowed in the first 2x"? What is off-topic about that? Or are we just going to bow and pray to buildings of brick & mortar?? |
