£100m Auchinleck House set for nod
Lisa Pilkington 12/01/2012 07:00

Seven Capital has unveiled images for its proposed £100m redevelopment of Auchinleck House and Fiveways shopping centre sites in Birmingham.

Planners at Birmingham council will consider plans by boutique investment house later today. Seven Capital wants to transform the vacant 102,257 sq ft Auchinleck office tower into a four-star, 300-bedroom hotel with roof top restaurant and refurbished shops. The scheme has been designed by architect 5plus.

The scheme has been recommended for approval.

Development director Andy Robinson said: “The proposals will completely alter the experience of visitors to this end of Broad Street, which has steadily declined through lack of investment over the last two decades. They will bring a new light, life and vibrancy at this important gateway to the city.”

Australian hotel management firm StayWell Group is being lined up to operate the hotel. It will be the group’s first property in Europe.

I hate it when the images are that small, however from what i can see this will be a really fantastic boost for Broad Street, something it really needs considering its a bit shit up this end. 100 Million price tag? Surely not, that's crazy.

The image in BP is better as it shows the tower as well from the same viewpoint

This lookis an excellant developemtn and in an area that is beginning to need it...fantastic if this does get the go-ahead,

Seems to be so many new hotels planned now, and with HS2 announcement god only knows how many more will come on line in new developments,

Planning approved about 20 mins ago apparently.

Seven Capital website says they will be ploughing £60m into this not £100m, the 100 is the end value. Still a huge amount though lets face it.

I hear this is extremely well prepared advanced and ready to go, apparently they've already completed deals for supply of furniture and equipment for this

Considering the owners bought this back in October, things have moved incredibly fast for this. I remember another hotel in Birmingham that moved incredibly fast... but I'm not going to curse this project with that...

The low rise elements look great, nice mix of materials. Would like to see them one or two storeys higher on the Broad Street side to enclose the street a little more but I think they're fine still with the current proposal. I like the idea of extending the roof of the tower, but I'm just not convinced by those images that it's been thought through completely. The shape looks a little awkward to me. I can't quite work out what sort of materials will be on it - is it just glass?

I'd love to see it restored to the original 1950s futralist look. But that's probably just me.

so let me get this right...

according to the news paper report, its only the basic application to convert the tower itself into a hotel has been approve to satisfy funding criteria.... the wider planning application for the shopping centre will be determined in the next two months?!?!?

Can we campaign to have illuminated vomit re-instated on the side of it?

This looks amazing, i'm glad this side of Broad Street is finally getting some love!

And if Waitrose open in that bottom unit, that would be a huge bonus, competition with Tesco and Morrisons
