1. Why are Albanians against the reconstruction of the National Theatre, Archaeological Museum, Constitutional Court, National Archive, the Ministry of Foriegn Affairs, the Financial Building, AEK Building, the National Bank, etc?

2. If the Skopje 2014 project was built with Albanian flags on all the buildings, would that make the Albanians happy? Because I am starting to think that the only reason they are against the project is because of nationalism. In other words they don't care about the architecture or purpose of the buildings, they just want everything to be Albanian.

Nikola, don't pay attention to these people, they are extremists and think they own Skopje. That is why they hate the Skopje 2014 project, it does not fit well in their dream of a Greater Albania

Its not true! I am albanian, but I m in a macedonian forum
I m against this project because this project is a waste of money but also the type of buildings is almost tasteless. It does not matter whether is built with the Albanian and Macedonian flag, what is bad is bad! I'm sorry!

It's insulting, I expect an apology! I could even now as you begin to insult the people but I do not want, I want that this forum continues.

I wish more people were like you.

But we know that the Skenderbeg Square is also tasteless, a waste of money, not functional, and not part of the detailed urban plan. But Albanians love it! Why? Because it is called "Skenderbeg" and there will be Albanian and American flags (shown in the video).

Oh of course, everybody is entitled to an opinion. But, do you think it may also be jealousy? Let's face it, two years from now, Skopje is going to look incredible and very European. While Tirana currently looks plain and ugly in comparison. I think some of the members there are deliberately saying bad things about the architecture but in secret, they would love it if buildings like that were built in their city.

And I think one other complaint they also make is that the style of the buildings has no historical value because it's a copy of other European cities. But maybe they don't know that some of the new buildings are a re-construction of ones that Skopje already had, but were destroyed in the earthquake in 1963. You should show them these pictures so they know that all these buildings belong in Skopje and the style is not a copy.

Who says we love it? Nobody in the forum likes it. But the current status of the square is temporary until they come up with a more permanent solution.

Skanderbeg Square unlike this "Skopje 2014" creation has enormous architectural and historical values. You are entering the square from the main boulevard, one of its kind in the region. Slowly as you're approaching the ministries complex (built in the '30s), you are then greeted with the Skanderbeg Monument, a graceful masterpiece created by Albania's greatest sculptor, Odhise Paskali, in 1968, commemorating the 500th anniversary of our national hero's death. On the right side stand the old mosque and clock tower which are symbols of the city's ottoman era. Adjacent to the mosque you have the opera theater building which is the only crappy structure dominating the square. Across from there is Tirana International Hotel, the city's first modern highrise built by the commies in the '80s.
Next to it stands the National History Museum with its majestic mural. And then there's the National Bank building constructed during the fascist period by italian architects.
One thing Tirana has and that's originality.

There's nothing Macedonians have that we would like to have it. Seriously

As for the nationalism you macedonians should try ti stick to the agreements that you have signed ei to respect the agreements on Albanian Flag and Language, and not to act aganist values you aim to achieve.

He was actually talking about our Skenderbeg Square in Skopje.
Just as a notice: I like it.

Do you have any clue what is being built in Tirana? Or the plans the city has for the future?
World's best architects are constantly devising projects for the city. TID Tower for example, one of the recent modern highrises, has been on the covers of many international magazines.
Tirana jealous of Skopje?
I have read of lot of funny stuff in these boards and this is right up there at the very top.
Tirana is building its own tram network, a second main boulevard, a brand new football stadium, a modern business park, a new government district.. just to name a few.
The city already has several modern shopping malls. It has energy and life that Skopje can only wish.

You're trying to make it sound as though Tirana is leaving Skopje behind but it's not. Skopje is also building a tram network, has many new boulevards, already has a modern football stadium, business parks and government building update. And many new shopping malls too.

Let's just agree that both cities are advancing at a similar rate. But I think there is some jealousy because of the style Skopje has chosen to go with which is clearly more European. By all means, it's very valid to argue about the cost of it all (which is excessive imo). But accusing Skopje of plagiarism is wrong since the only thing Skopje is copying is it's former self.

I meant the proposed Skenderbeg Square in Skopje, not Tirana.

My impression is that Skopje has done much more than Tirana. Not because it is capital of Macedonia, but because I really feel. For me, Tirana, Skopje and Pristina are the same, i like the three cities to mutch but I think Skopje is better.
Soon begins to build the road under the earth, can you say me, when did Tirana do this project? Please, you must unterstand me of course everyone protects their capital, but it depends on how people see it. It is only an opinion and why should you be angry.?!
And.. the Skenderbeg square in Skopje.. I like it, but not because I m albanian,I like it because the part of this place is ugly and with this project, this part will be great because it is modern, fossil, he is macedonian but he like this project. We must look what is better for our Capitalcity, it is not importent whether this project is albanian or macedonian. It is our money and this is vor all the people who live in Macedonia.
And slowly I'm sick of it, to compare the main cities.
