I really like both designs. After building this wedge, maybe the developer can find another spot and put up the original tower too. :P

This project is 88% sold!

"anyone pondering the current state of Toronto’s condo market may want to take note of the rip-roaring success of Tridel’s recently launched ten york project.

The 65-storey glass tower — which will rise from a wedge-shaped site at york and harbour sts. — has been regarded as a bellwether, a development whose sales performance this fall would offer an indication of the health of a condo market that some analysts believe has become oversupplied.

Of the 600 units at Ten York released to date, 532 had been sold as of early November. If the Toronto condo market is cooling, “you sure as heck wouldn’t have known that from what was happening at our sales office,” notes Jim Ritchie, Tridel’s senior vice president of sales and marketing."

Some other tidbits:

"glass-enclosed lobby with 30-foot-high ceilings."
"the north and south facades will be glass curtain walls."
" Here it’s going to be very sleek and finished looking; more like a commercial building."

This building has a FAR better design than any of the glass condos built recently in Toronto. Too late to change those ones already built, though.
Still can't beat FCP, though.

this went to sales a week ago. I don't expect construction until spring.

Expect the next major building to begin in Toronto to be the Massey tower, at 205m.

I'd put Ten York in the top quintile with the latest crop being substantially better than the ones built at the beginning of the cycle.

word is that this has already sold over 80% of the units, meaning that it has a high chance of happening.

This proposal is less than a year old at this point. There are many, many steps to complete from the original concept to the point of construction.

I think they made the model too short in this video. It looks the same height as MLS.

It should be clearer by the end of May how sales of projects launched so far this year are doing, but early indications are that first-time buyers are looking again, especially in the 416 region, says Jim Ritchie, vice-president of Tridel, which hopes to start construction on its Ten York project by the end of 2013 and has sold 620 of the building's 694 units.

Indeed, compared to all the other proposals Toronto has this one is unique.

Some quick news on this one. kristopher at UT is reporting that the parking lot will be closed on December 1st of this year, meaning that construction is imminent.

Toronto looks set to develop every slither of available land in its core. I imagine they'll employ lots of sound insulation in the lower units. Downtown is already a busy, hectic place. Besides, it's the podium that's next to the freeway. The lowest floor of residential looks to be higher up.
