HSINCHU | Public Transport

Anyone have pictures of the newly opened light rail system connecting the HSR station to downtown and Maoili County?

The post at http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=645722 appears to be dead?

That link does not contain any info about light rail.

There's something about Hsinchu "MRT." In November the Liujia Line opened linking Hsinchu HSR station and downtown Hsinchu. It's not light rail.

It's heavy rail but initial planning documents called it light rail?

In fact...Liujia (Lioujia) Line is neither MRT nor light rail line.

It's a branch line of Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) Neiwan Line,

and all the Liujia (Lioujia) Line trains are operating through Neiwan Line to/from TRA Hsinchu Station.

So it should be considered as a conventional rail line for commuting purpose.

By the way, one word of the main title of this post has been spelled wrong...H"SI"NCHU

As Taiwan Jr. said, the line is a conventional heavy rail line, using AC 25kv catenary (Light rail is typically 750v DC).

Test train (?) leaving Liujia station:

Another view, and a passenger window view:

So to travel from Hsinchu station to Hsinchu TRA station you have to get on the Neiwan Line and then switch to the Liujia Line at Zhidong? Why couldn't they just build a direct connection between Hsinchu and TRA Hsinchu stations?

In the case of taking TRA Liujia (Lioujia) Line trains from Liujia (Lioujia) Station (THSR Hsinchu Station),

if your destination is TRA Hsinchu Station, there's NO NEED to change trains at "Zhuzhong" (Jhujhong) Station.

According to the fact I've replied earlier :

Quote:
...all the Liujia (Lioujia) Line trains are operating through Neiwan Line to/from TRA Hsinchu Station.
In other words, direct train service between Liujia (Lioujia) Station (THSR Hsinchu Station) & TRA Hsinchu Station is available.

Quote:
TRA Hsinchu Station ←→ TRA Neiwan Line ←→ Zhuzhong (Jhujhong) Station ←→ TRA Liujia (Lioujia) Line ←→ Liujia (Lioujia) Station (THSR Hsinchu Station)

Thank you. That clears it all up.
