I don't think that you have to send in the plates in Sweden because most cars at the scrapyards still have plates.

I posted this on another forum, and the Mustang had apparently stood there for many years. No plates, flat tire and a lot of rust. There is currently a plan to develop this parking plot into apartments so it wouldn't surprised me if it have been scrapped since I was there.

This Lada stood with flat tire when I took a picture of it. It have since then lost it plates and have not moved a inch.

That's really shame to abandon those cars! If I could I would save both, however the body is still looking good so it wouldn't be hard work to restore them

I checked out the location for the Mustang in streetview, and it's not there! So it had either been moved before streetview was there or it hadn't been placed there yet. Either way it appears like it may not have been as abandoned as I thought.

This car was spotted at... home. A 1968 Beetle with no engine and transmission. Equipped with a semi-automatic gearbox and fresh-air ventilation. I don't know what we're gonna do with it once it's restored, we have 3 usable cars at home and this would be the 4th one.

The semiautomatic gearbox was very rare in Scandinavia. I think semi automatic means that you have to shift gears but you don't have to declutch, because there's no clutch.

Are these Beetles still used as taxicars in Mexico? I have seen that they remove the front passenger seat on VW Beetle taxis to ease entry for customers.

Yeah, there's no clutch, just gas and brake.

This is the shift pattern of the gear selector:

. . R . 1
.__|__|
| . | . |
P . L . 2

P stands for "Park", R for "Reverse", and I think "L" is actually 1st gear, whereas 1 is 2nd and 2 is 3rd gear, like an automatic gearbox.

As for Beetle taxis in Mexico City (I don't know about the rest of the country)... there's a law that forbids taxis with more than 10 years of use, the last Beetle was produced in 2003. Today Beetles make less than 30% of Mexico City's taxis, and probably we won't see any next year.

As for my city, since we are at the MEX-US border, we can import almost every brand imaginable, which means a wide variety of taxis, basically every 4-door car available.

Fiat Uno. It doesn't seem, but this car is abandoned since years in the parking of the airport (I saw it in 2010 and it had already rear flat tyre)
